Goodbye Dollet and Thanks for All the Fish! (backdated to Sept 28)

Summary: It's an excuse to pump dance music really really loudly, tbh.

The party was put together ridiculously fast, but everyone who decided to help went all out, and the place is pretty damn awesome. There are refreshments, strobe lights, a loudass music setup, and lots of space to dance. Come on in and have a blast! Garden will be sailing off in the morning, and then it's back to school. Time to get in that last hurrah!

Grell seemed to have taken a liking to all the fire songs, like the third one. But other than that, she approved of the selection. Getting her out to the dance floor would take a few strong drinks, though, so she made her way to the DJ booth, waving lightly to Mister Fishbro.

"Perhaps deciding to come was a good idea~!" She leaned over to see his work area better. "Have you done this before?" While she understood computers, music systems were a bit out of her ken.

The music system was a complex setup consisting of a dual deck boombox and a lot of CDs. DJ Fishbro set a disc in the open tray, pushed >>| until the right number showed up, then pushed pause so it wouldn't start playing in the middle of the current song.

"Sure, lots a times," he said. "Ain't like it's any different than usual jus' cuz we hooked the boombox up t' bigger speakers." He looked up at Grell and grinned. "Cats kick y' out?"

....of course.

Grell eye rolled at the question. "As if. I was simply bored and came to see how things faired."

No playing. Right. The grin fell to his usual neutral expression, then he shrugged, rolling his head to one side. "Looks pretty damn good t' me, considerin' this all went up in jus' a couple a hours. Thatch an' Selphie make a good team, huh? Sheheh. Did y' end up helpin' 'em somewhere 'long the line?"

"Agreed." Grell stood up to her full height, but at the mention of Selphie, she sneered. "NO."

That little whelp of a girl was on Her List.

He mouthed the word wow, because those were some seriously irritated chemicals she just released, and they hit his senses like an explosion. "Okaay," he said slowly. "'Parently I stuck a hook in yer lip. What'd I say?"

Grell shrugged. "I simply dislike her, and would never be inclined to assist her in any way."

"That's an awful lot a dislikin' someone," he mused. "What'd she do t' y'?"

Grell just shrugged. "Not very much. Just being herself was enough."

Namur returned the shrug with one of his own. "Oh well. Can't get 'long with everybody I guess. Good t' see y' though. Got any music y' want played?"

Grell shook her head at the question. "Not in particular, but perhaps I can take over while you mingle at your own soiree.

"Naw, 's cool, I got it," Namur smiled. "Jus' the guy that thought it up's all. Balamb Garden sayin' a sweet farewell t' a good friend that gave us a safe harbor when we needed a place t' get away from it all. Ain't jus' my party. 'S everybody's. Y' like dancin'?"

"Why, Namu~! That's quite generous and sweet of you!" Grell grinned and went to ruffle his hair playfully. "Yes, I quite like dancing, but not to just anything!"

Namur made a kind of grinding noise in the back of his throat at the nickname. "Damn Thatch," he muttered, feeling his cheeks color a little. Then he laughed. "A'ight, what will y' dance to? If I got it I'll spin it, peeps can deal for a song."

Grell thought over a few songs she liked before replying.

"Prokofiev Symphony Number One, in D Major. Opus Twenty-Five."

She really just said it to be a pain.

"Sheheh, should a known yer taste'd be too classy for the likes a me," Namur ran his hand over his hair and thought for a moment, then shifted through the pile of CDs. After a second he found the one he was looking for and switched out the disc that he'd queued up earlier. "This ain't goin' t' be exactly the same but it's the closest I got. Give it a listen, tell me what y' think."

Grell did just that, and smiled at how modern it sounded.

"It certainly tugs at a few strings~!" A grin at her own pun. "It's quite refreshing! I do like how they've used the instruments. You'll have to send me a few similar songs!"

"Ain't my disc," he said sadly. "Had my eye on these maids for awhile now, jus' never actually bought the album. Guess I ought t', huh? Sheheheh!"

He sifted through the pile again, this time reading the backs every once in awhile. "Thought I saw 'nother similar band. Or so it said on the back. Let's see it wasn't them... Oh! Here we go."

After the interim song, Namur played another supposedly similar band, a smile crawling across his face as he nodded his head to the beat.

"Goin' t' get these girls too. Damn."

"Yes, you ought to," she replied with a wry smile, looking on as he sifted through his music. "That's quite the collection! How long have you been gathering them?"

The next song was just as good, as Grell moved her head to the beat. "This one, as well."

"Ain't all mine, like I said." Namur rubbed his thumb under his chin. "Mine I been collectin' since I got here. Comin' up on three years now I guess. Dived right int' it cuz it's somethin' we couldn't do back home an' I always wanted t'. But lots a these're from kids bringin' 'em 'round for requests 'n' shit. Got a list a what belongs t' who." He tapped the notebook laying on top of the boombox.

"Just because they aren't yours doesn't mean we can't make them yours." She will reach out for the previous CD and check over the contents on the jacket cover. "I can extract the songs I wish from any CD here."

Piracy at a dance party. She was becoming a true pirate.

"When will you give them back?"

Namur began chuckling slowly. "Prob'ly got an hour or two 'fore anyone starts comin' 'round t' claim 'em. How much time y' need?"

He's already sorting through the discs, setting the ones he owns in one stack, a pile of ones he knows are worth extracting in another, and ones he's not familiar with in a third.

"Give me three hours." Grell will take up the last disc he used. "Which pile is which?"

"Three?" Namur choked a little. "Shit, Grell. Night's already half over. People's startin' t' wear 'emselves out an' y' want me t' keep 'em goin' when yer takin' half the good music away?" He shook his head. "Y' got one hour. This stack's priority. Jus' take what y' know y' can get done."
