Goodbye Dollet and Thanks for All the Fish! (backdated to Sept 28)

Summary: It's an excuse to pump dance music really really loudly, tbh.

The party was put together ridiculously fast, but everyone who decided to help went all out, and the place is pretty damn awesome. There are refreshments, strobe lights, a loudass music setup, and lots of space to dance. Come on in and have a blast! Garden will be sailing off in the morning, and then it's back to school. Time to get in that last hurrah!

She had come a long way since the beginning of the last term. Namur nodded, keeping time with the music as he did. When it was his turn, he smacked the floor, cleared a space, then gave her a short lesson in defying gravity.

[Ok, admittedly, that was freaking awesome. Even she had to clap enthusiastically when the music ended, only, when the music started onto something different, for her to change things up.

"Been takin' lessons from Miss Pink, looks like," he said. It was a good move if she had, and one Namur approved of. There didn't seem to be many dancers in Garden when he first arrived, so it was fun watching more come out of the woodworks.

If it was fancy footwork she was looking for Namur wasn't about to disappoint. Admittedly it wasn't his forte, but the lighter pop beat certainly called for something a little bouncier than usual.

"I take lessons from me!" Fionna said proudly, although admittedly she had been practicing in the library, looking into their database on dancing. She could't believe how many there were, all these crazy styles! Grated, the only reason Twilight had probably not killed her was because Twilight did yoga by herself, so Fionna was allowed to crash and bang on the floor to perfect her movement.

Also, since Namur had decided to slow things down a little, she could make things go a little more fun, right?

"Nice," he chuckled. "Best way a learnin's jus' t' do it." He had to change out the music again, but once it started, he dove right in. "Walls're too far away for y' t' crash int' this time 'round. Let's see y' try a few a them halos."

"That's what I do!" She protested, then again, the music shifted genres, and she shook her head. "I'm not crashing into anything for you this time buddy!"

This time IT WAS ON.

Thaaat was an interesting style. Namur came back with more traditional breakdancing, finally feeling himself start to relax and just enjoy the music the way he was hoping he would. The last few weeks of school and then the SeeD exam had gotten him more wired up than he expected, and just when that got done Garden decided to dump itself off the side of a canyon? Mossballs to that shit. It was good to get the tenseness out of his system, take some time to hyperfocus on nothing but movement and sound.

Fionna had to admit, she loved watching Namur break out from his usual teacher persona and just shake it loose! More and more, she entertained the idea of her and him being pirates, going around and robbing rich stuffy people, than kicking back afterward to sing songs and have a good time! Of course, Fionna wasn't a thief, but that didn't make pirates less cool!

Time to slow it down, and then up tempo things? Fionna has the answer.

Namur slipped into something similar for the next song, flowing through the air as smoothly as if he were underwater.

"Dude, you rock!" Fionna said, but even she wanted to do something new, and the music gave her just the opportunity.

They could go on all night, really!

They could! But Namur had to change out the music, and there were some requests for slow dances. Dancing out in the ocean with another fishwoman or mermaid, where everyone expected everyone else to have a dorsal fin, or multiple long tentacles, or any number of other odd anatomical quirks was one thing, but Namur had found dancing among humans when they weren't attentively giving him space could prove... harmful.

"Take a rest, Smolt," he told her. "Or find yerself a human t' dance with the next couple a rounds. Got t' give the miltbrains a chance t' get their hands all over the maids for a few minutes."

Fionna made a face. "Yeah, bump that. I'm not here to get all touchy feely! Why don't we go get some punch or something?"

"Girl, there ain't 'nuff a that stuff t' get me buzzed," this time it was Namur's turn to make a face. "An' it tastes worse'n shit. Want t' see me get wasted y'll have t' wait 'til we're back at Garden, got it? Could use some water though, if y' want t' track some down I'll be grateful." He switched out the CDs and queued up a couple of slow songs for the crowd. There was an expected rush on the refreshment table before the boys and girls got up enough guts to ask each other to dance, and by the second slower song those that were going to pair off had pretty much done so.

"No?" Fionna was actually impressed. "This stuff kinda works on me, I didn't think you could get it to taste better though. What's in the Garden that would actually do the trick?"

Now she was just curious: both about what the drink was and how Namur would be drunk at all. She did move to get the water for him though: after all that dancing, they earned it.

She came back, watching all the pairs. "Man, already?"

"Actual booze," Namur replied, his voice flat. "An' no shitty pink chemicals waterin' it down."

He accepted the water and let it drain down his throat, taking a deep breath afterward.

"Been sizin' each other up all night, Fi," he chuckled. "For some folk, this here's the main event."

"Yeah, but, what kinda booze are you talking about? Rum? Vod-kah?"

Fionna drank some water of her own, exhaling happily when she was done.

"I guess, if you already got someone like that," she said, shrugging. "I don't see why you'd wait 'til now though. If I had someone I liked, they better be able to dance fast AND slow. They have to keep up with me, after all!"

"Whatever we pick up on the way," he said with a shrug. "Prob'ly ain't happenin' t'night though since Thatch's likely gettin' sloshed t' his teeth an' someone's goin' t' have t' clean up 'round here." Namur took a deep breath and let it out heavily, leaning his elbows on his knees. Worst part of the party, that. Then he turned, letting the subject change with a sharp smile.

"People ain't all the same, Smolt," he cuffed the back of her head, just enough to give it a solid thump, but do no real damage. "Jus' cuz y' think shit ought t' be one way don't mean others ain't entitled t' the same. Got t' share the dance floor, give a little bit a everythin' so everybody goes home happy, y' know?"

"Aw, boo," Fionna hissed. "It's no fun getting all silly drunk if you have to be sober for it all. Hey, promise you get drunk with me, and I'll help ya clean up, I promise! We all should get to enjoy ourselves today, even if it is over some weird drnk that makes us act loopy."

She stuck out her tongue. "Yeah, I guess. Maybe I just have no room for saps now. But I guess even here we gotta have some slow dancing."

"Jus' what the hell kind a drunk y' think I am?" Namur laughed. "Trust me, I'm a lot more fun sober. Maybe buzzed. Still."

"Either one!" Fionna said happily. "But I think I'll take buzzed, if you stay happy!"

"Yer really stuck on this, ain't y'?" Namur shook his head. "Maybe next time, Girly. Least one person's got t' be sane 'nuff t' drag all yer sorry sloshed asses back t' Garden 'fore it up and flies off in the mornin'."

"Well sure. I mean, being drunk is ok, I guess, but the best part about it is getting to have fun with your bros gettin' silly and pranking each other and having dumb conversations!"

She wrinkled her nose. "And you want that to be you? That's gotta suck."

"Want it t' be me?" Namur leaned back- sort of- in the chair. He turned himself sideways and draped his arm over the back to do it because of his dorsal fin. His voice took on a resigned tone. "Naw, Smolt. Ain't no one else t' do it. Thatch's already halfway t' snookered, Ace's just as likely t' join him as he is t' take care a him, an' no one else that's here knows how t' handle 'em drunk. Process a 'limination, an' all that shit. Don't mean I ain't havin' fun!"

Fionna raised an eyebrow, then shook her head. "I get it. So you look after bros, even if you could be having fun. cake is kinda like that. Like, she likes to have fun like me, but if she's gotta play the mom, she'll do it, you know? It's just us in the Treefort, so that makes sense. But I'm sure they're glad to have you lookin' after 'em."

She looked at the punch. "I thin I will help ya after all this."

"Close 'nuff, I guess," he leaned forward to get the next song going. "Do what y' want, Girly. Got a couple a smolts from the Committee thing hangin' 'round t' help clear it out so either way we're all good. Music's pickin' up after this, by the way. Last chance t' find yerself a good lookin' partner t' cozy up with, sheheheh!"
