Summary: It's an excuse to pump dance music really really loudly, tbh.

The party was put together ridiculously fast, but everyone who decided to help went all out, and the place is pretty damn awesome. There are refreshments, strobe lights, a loudass music setup, and lots of space to dance. Come on in and have a blast! Garden will be sailing off in the morning, and then it's back to school. Time to get in that last hurrah!

"Sure, I completely trust the friends of a fish-man who can take down a T-Rexaur in two punches to cause no property damage or mayhem," she said wryly as she shook his hand -- carefully, because few people could compete with her for grip strength. "Maria Cyphert."

Ace smiled and shook her hand carefully for much the same reason. "So you know Namur well then? He's my brother. He's awesome isn't he!?" He grinned as he stood close enough that she could hear him over the music.

Maria, who had spent a little time wondering just how to categorize Namur after meeting him the first time, said, "He's an interesting combination of massively-powerful fighter and bashful dork."

"He's adorable." Ace grinned at her taking what she said as a compliment and a good thing. "So you're an instructor here then?"

"Just a SeeD," she said, the way someone might happily declare themselves to be just the mightiest of gods. Girl loved her work. "Might go the Instructor route someday if anybody ever develops some interest in gunblades besides me again."

"Ohh, gunblade? What's a gunblade? Sounds interesting." Ace was just a cadet after all and had not studied any of the weapons that were used in this place.

"Gunblades," Maria said, with the sudden bright-eyed enthusiasm of a fanatic asked to proselytize, "are a weapon that fuses a gun grip with a sword blade, such that when the trigger of the grip is pulled, the firing mechanism causes a shockwave to run down the blade, resulting in both significantly increased damage to whatever the blade is hitting at the time and recoil which can be used to enhance maneuverability in combat. Originally developed as an upgrade to the basic melee weapons of soldiers, the gunblade was abandoned as a mass-produced, mass-equipped weapon once large-scale armed combat diverged into melee and ranged conflicts -- gunblades just took too much skill to wield properly, so it was ultimately easier to just train soldiers in both rifles and swords. However, the superior strength and versatility of a gunblade make it an extraordinary weapon for small-unit tactics and organizations like SeeD that focus on a small number of highly-superior troops rather than mass conflict."

"That was really in depth....and actually sounds really awesome. I'd like to see one eventually. I don't typically use weapons...but doesn't mean I'm not interested. Would you show me sometime?" Ace asked, grinning and legitimately interested in knowing more about it.

"I'd love to," Maria said with a grin that spoke of her love of gunblades... and perhaps a little more darkly, her love of beating the holy hell out of monsters with her gunblades. "You won't really get a good overview otherwise unless you take intermediate bladed weapons."

"Or unless we meet up after class hours and you show me then. " Ace suggested casually meaning nothing more by it other than what he stated.

"Exactly," Maria said with a nod. "And that's exactly what I'll do, once classes start back up again."

[mera_mera_ace]

"You couldn't like just meet me some afternoons and tell me?" Ace asked with a sweet kind of voice, wondering if he could avoid the class and just have her teach him directly.

[gunbladegrrl]

Maria chuckled. "That's what I'm saying I'll do. Just once classes start... you know, in a couple days? I don't think I'll get anywhere doing anything till everyone settles down again."

"Oh. Ok. That would be really really awesome!" Ace smiled at her and rocked back and forth on his feet a moment. "You wanna dance or something?"

She glanced out at some of the more wild displays on the dance floor, a smile curving her lips. "I'd be lying if I said I thought I could keep up with anyone out there... I'm getting exhausted just watching them!"

She laughed, running a hand through her hair self-consciously. Feeling like the chaperone here just was weird.

"Oh come on. It will be fun...I promise." He gives her the best pout he can muster, his chocolate eyes all wide with a shine of tears added in for effect. Boy the freckled man was trying to lay it on thick that's for sure. He wondered if she would be immune to it.

For a moment it seemed like she might be... but no. She cracked, visibly, even as she smirked at herself for doing so. "All right, but only because I feel like saying no would be the moral equivalent of kicking a puppy, you manipulator."

Ace laughed out and took her hand leading her to the dance floor. "And you know you'll enjoy it but you don't wanna seem like you are." He teased her lightly. The music slowed a bit and he held her respectfully as he danced her around the floor. Well as much as she let him anyway.

Maria snickered. "Just for that, I'll try my best not to!"

Truth was, she only knew ballroom dancing, which didn't adapt super-well to the more energetic and noisier music blasting out of the speakers. Still, she gave it her best shot anyway.

It kind of looked like she was going to beat someone up, but that's just how she was.

Ace laughed at her joke and did his best to make sure she did in fact have a good time. No one seemed to be paying attention to how she was dancing and Ace didn't really see anything wrong with it. It wasn't like he was an expert at dancing or anything.

"So do you know these guys?" 'These guys', to judge by the jerk of her head, are Namur, who she basically associates with this party in its entirety.

"You mean Namur? He's my brother. I've known him for years. Thatch and Marco are my brothers too." Ace said as they kept dancing. He was pretty sure he had already told her that, but maybe he hadn't.

"But I'm assuming not biological." Because that just raised all sorts of questions if they were. "Not that I'm saying brotherhood requires biology, just curious how it all fell out."

[mera_mera_ace]

"No not biological. But we were adopted by the same man. He took us in and made us his sons. Loved us, cared for us." Ace said as he kept dancing around the floor with her. He was really enjoying himself even if she wasn't.

"Do you have any siblings?"

"Oh! You know, I hadn't even imagined you had an adoptive father. I always thought you guys had that brother-in-spirit thing going on," she said, giggling a little at her own presumption. "No, I don't have any siblings. I'm an only kid."
