Summary: It's an excuse to pump dance music really really loudly, tbh.

The party was put together ridiculously fast, but everyone who decided to help went all out, and the place is pretty damn awesome. There are refreshments, strobe lights, a loudass music setup, and lots of space to dance. Come on in and have a blast! Garden will be sailing off in the morning, and then it's back to school. Time to get in that last hurrah!

For a moment it seemed like she might be... but no. She cracked, visibly, even as she smirked at herself for doing so. "All right, but only because I feel like saying no would be the moral equivalent of kicking a puppy, you manipulator."

Ace laughed out and took her hand leading her to the dance floor. "And you know you'll enjoy it but you don't wanna seem like you are." He teased her lightly. The music slowed a bit and he held her respectfully as he danced her around the floor. Well as much as she let him anyway.

Maria snickered. "Just for that, I'll try my best not to!"

Truth was, she only knew ballroom dancing, which didn't adapt super-well to the more energetic and noisier music blasting out of the speakers. Still, she gave it her best shot anyway.

It kind of looked like she was going to beat someone up, but that's just how she was.

Ace laughed at her joke and did his best to make sure she did in fact have a good time. No one seemed to be paying attention to how she was dancing and Ace didn't really see anything wrong with it. It wasn't like he was an expert at dancing or anything.

"So do you know these guys?" 'These guys', to judge by the jerk of her head, are Namur, who she basically associates with this party in its entirety.

"You mean Namur? He's my brother. I've known him for years. Thatch and Marco are my brothers too." Ace said as they kept dancing. He was pretty sure he had already told her that, but maybe he hadn't.

"But I'm assuming not biological." Because that just raised all sorts of questions if they were. "Not that I'm saying brotherhood requires biology, just curious how it all fell out."

"No not biological. But we were adopted by the same man. He took us in and made us his sons. Loved us, cared for us." Ace said as he kept dancing around the floor with her. He was really enjoying himself even if she wasn't.

"Do you have any siblings?"

"Oh! You know, I hadn't even imagined you had an adoptive father. I always thought you guys had that brother-in-spirit thing going on," she said, giggling a little at her own presumption. "No, I don't have any siblings. I'm an only kid."

Ace raised an eyebrow at her before she shrugged and smiled. He supposed some people just made weird assumptions. "That must have been a bit lonely growing up."

"Naw, not at all. My parents were great, I had friends... I never felt lonely." She shrugged, blending the motion into her steps as she continued to fake her way around the dance floor. "And I got some privacy sometimes, I'm not sure how you'd ever manage that!"

"I didn't have them till I was almost 18. I was alone until I was seven...that's when I met Sabo. I was ten when I met Luffy. They're my other brothers. Well two of them anyway. But Sabo died later that year....and it was just me and Luffy." Ace said softly. He wasn't even sure she heard him.

"Family talk always ends up depressing," she said with a quiet sigh. "Sorry I brought it up. You all always look like you're having so much fun, I just wondered..."

"No it's alright. You didn't know after all." Ace smiled at her and continued dancing still. It really was fun and he was enjoying himself with her. He was glad Namur had decided to throw this party. It seemed Garden could use some downtime.

"But I should have!" No one ever has a happy family story, after all -- at least, not offworlders, it seems. Oh well. She kept dancing as well, not entirely sure she was enjoying it, but it was something to do and it wasn't all that bad.
