Summary: It's an excuse to pump dance music really really loudly, tbh.

The party was put together ridiculously fast, but everyone who decided to help went all out, and the place is pretty damn awesome. There are refreshments, strobe lights, a loudass music setup, and lots of space to dance. Come on in and have a blast! Garden will be sailing off in the morning, and then it's back to school. Time to get in that last hurrah!

"Be good if y' taught magic, or 'bout the GFs or history," Namur offered. "Taught me a hell of a lot, anyway. What's the other part?"

"Namur, are you kidding? The other part is gunblades! You know I'm the only SeeD who currently uses them, despite the fact that Commander Leonhart is the one who vanquished Ultimecia and saved the world with them?" She almost pounded one of the machines for emphasis, but fortunately stopped herself before she could. "It's a shame and a tragedy, that's what it is!"

Namur threw back his head and laughed, resting his elbow on the top of the boombox.

"Sweetheart, y' give plenty a them lessons for free," he chortled. He rather liked it though. "Don't think there's many swordfolk 'round here, 'cept Thatch an' Fionna. I know Thatch ain't goin' t' be big on the idea- he's already monster 'nuff with his sabers an' he's doin' this whole... old an' dyin' thing." Namur's face and tone clearly indicated what a load of shit he thought that was. "But if y' can stand Fionna for more'n five minutes, she'd prob'ly go for it."

"Exactly. That's the point. More people need to know how incredible these weapons are, especially offworlders. You know these weapons don't actually appear to exist on any other world?" Namur, you poor fool, look what you started. "I've asked, I've done surveys of the Garden offworld population and nothing. The closest I ever came was a weapon called a gunblade that isn't one of our gunblades at all."

"Kind a cool though, in a way," Namur said. "Mean, that y' got somethin' totally unique t' yer world. Let y' show yer pride an' all. Maybe that's why its a hard sell for the offworlders. Want t' keep t' the shit that's from their worlds, y' know? Least 'til they get settled in an' start thinkin' a this place as theirs too. Might take awhile, but I'll bet y'll find some smolts that'll warm up t' 'em. Meantime, talk t' the natives. If yer already teachin' them an' the offworlders see how cool y'all are it might get 'em interested faster."

"Either way, the first step is actually making sure someone IS teaching them, and not just as a footnote in WTR." Hard to imagine she was just 'considering' going for her license, the way she talked about it.

"Sounds like y' got the right idea, so why ain't y' teachin' already?" Hard to imagine indeed. "Hell, they're lettin' me teach shit. What's the deal?"

"Guess I just... hadn't decided for sure I wanted to." Bemused, even Maria had to acknowledge with a wry smile that she sure seemed like she had.

Namur chuckled. "Bein' fair, ain't a hell of a lot a teenagers that's got any idea what they want t' do," he said. "Y' got time t' try shit out, see if it fits 'fore y' go gettin' yerself tied down t' one thing or another. Maybe teachin' gunblades is what y' want t' do long term but y' want t' try other shit out first jus' for fun. Hell if I know, right? Sheheheh!"

"Yeah, that's a better way of saying what I was thinking than I had," she admitted with a little self-depreciative laugh. "You're pretty insightful under all that shark muscle, anyone ever told you that?"

"Uhh, not really," Namur ran a hand over the back of his head. "Jus' r'member feelin' like a dumbass most a the time when I was a smolt. Deep shit was goin' on all 'round me an' I was stuck in the middle half the time an' didn't even realize 'til it was gettin' in my gills, y' know? Thought it was jus' me for a long time, but I realized later it's jus' somethin' y' go through. Some hit it earlier'n others, some get stuck in it longer, but eventually y' figure yerself out."

Maria nodded. "Yeah. I was lucky, I got that early, and I got my chance to do it. I don't know what I would've done if I hadn't made it here... but then again, I never really considered another possibility. Failure wasn't an option."

"Course it weren't," he smiled, cocking his head to the side a little, "Yer the type that's goin' t' save people an' all that."

The music began to wind down, and Namur grabbed a CD that was sitting next to him on the table.

"Play six on this'un next. Y' like t' listen t' any kind a music on yer own?"

[Maria just smirks.] Sure, but nothing contemporary. Funny thing about skipping a decade, everything you used to love is out of fashion... replaced by I don't even know what, but I don't really like it.

"Oh, y' got lost in time compression too?" Namur was surprised. "Bet that was weird for yer folks. Listen, though. All this music's new t' me. Some a it sounds kind a like some a the shit we got back home but it's all different, jus' the same. When y' make the... whatever y' called it. Play list? On the computer, I'll listen t' some a the songs y' like. Good music's good music, don't matter how old it is, catch me?"

She nodded. "Yep. Lost ten years between Dollet and here when I first shipped out. So styles and times changed and I missed it all, leaving me an angry old woman at my young age."

She was just playing though. "Just haven't really sat down and found something these days I really like, especially since it's getting harder and harder to import albums from Galbadia."

"What's wrong with music y' find everywhere else?" Namur was genuinely curious.

"The two major music scenes are Esthar City and Deling City, and Esthar's a little too..." She waved a hand in the air, not quite sure how to describe it. "Well, it was isolated from the world for years, so it got very closed-off in that time, and its music developed along heavy electronic lines without any outside influence to either incorporate or learn from. So I never was really fond of it."

"Sheheheh, so y' prob'ly been hatin' the music here t'night, huh?" There'd been a lot of pop but admittedly, most of Namur's music library was geared toward breakdancing, which tended to have almost excessive electronics overlaying a hard, steady beat. He shook his head and smiled gratefully.

"Well, shit. Prob'ly ought t' get out there then 'fore yer patience wears out," he laughed. "When y've had 'nuff jus' let me know an' I'll take over 'gain!" And with that he rolled backwards off the table into a handstand, held it for a full second, then let his feet drop to the ground smoothly. It took a few seconds for people to realize he was out on the floor, but the crowd quickly shifted back as those nearest tried to give themselves distance. Namur pretended he didn't see, told himself they were just giving him space because they wanted to see him dance, and then that's what he did.
