Goodbye Dollet and Thanks for All the Fish! (backdated to Sept 28)

Summary: It's an excuse to pump dance music really really loudly, tbh.

The party was put together ridiculously fast, but everyone who decided to help went all out, and the place is pretty damn awesome. There are refreshments, strobe lights, a loudass music setup, and lots of space to dance. Come on in and have a blast! Garden will be sailing off in the morning, and then it's back to school. Time to get in that last hurrah!

"We study really, really late," she said, "and sometimes I have so much energy she needs to find a way to get me to shut up. Besides, what do you expect. You have an ego larger than, like, a gorge, but I still think you're the coolest. We wee bound to talk about you."

"When I get back to Equestria, I gotta have a word with that pony about boundaries." Rainbow fluffed up her feathers in mild irritation for just a moment. "She should only talk about the cool stuff!"

"It's better to know all about somebody you really like, not just the good stuff," Fionna said, winking. "It makes them seem like real people, and so you can feel like a real one too!"

"And it's even better to find out about stuff FIRSThoof instead of second," Rainbow shot back. "How would you like me telling Twilight about YOUR embarrassing stuff? ...if I could."

"Either way, it doesn't change that you come a long way," Fionna said. "Stories just make people what they are: they make mistakes, mess up, they learn and get up and do it again."

"And then get embarrassed by their previous selves," Rainbow added. "Kinda wanted to skip that part."

"You can't escape your past!" Fionna said. "That's what happens when peeps from your world are around! I'd take it though, if I could see my sis."

"You gotta tell me more about your sis," Rainbow said, grateful to seize on any topic of discussion that wasn't how she'd screwed up in the past.

This actually did catch Fionna by surprise. No one had wanted to learn abou Cake.

"Oh, sure dude! What do you want to know?"

"Oh, uh, everything!" She hadn't thought about specifics... "Just tell me some stuff about her, y'know?"

"Hmm. Well, she's real caring and junk. Like, if some guy so much as looks at me wrong, she can grow all huge and scary if she needs to! She and I go on adventures all the time, and she's helped me kick Ice Queen's butt plenty of times! She can be scary as a cat though, like on my birthday. She wanted to get me presents so...she kinda gave me the heads of all these small animals. the stains were on the floor for days!"

Rainbow listened to this story with a smile, finding it to be relatively sweet and nice and not about her past embarrassments...

...right up until the last line. She recoiled away with a look of disgust and horror on her face. "Ew! Ewwww! Oh my gosh, why!?"

"Cats do it to show they like you," Fionna said. "It is the most messed up thing ever."

"Okay, this is first, why I am not a cat pony, and second, if I had a sister who decapitated animals as presents for me I wouldn't care WHAT animal whe was acting like!"

Rainbow had missed something.

"Eh. All animals are gonna have their own things, whether you want them to or not. Cake may do weird cat things, but she's the best friend I ever had, and if anyone messes with me, well, she'll make 'em regret it for a long time. You couldn't ask for a better sister!"

"Uh." The weird, weird light of realization dawned across Rainbow. "Fionna, is your sister a cat?"

"Well yeah, technically," Fionna said, shrugging. "I'm adopted."

"Into a family of cats?"

Rainbow's mental images only got weirder and more alarming with every sentence.

"Yeah, I was...kinda abandoned in a forest. Cake's mom and dad basically became mine. It's why I vowed to be a hero, to help anyone in need, like I was way back then!"

Never mind the "boom-boom" part. Not that essential to the story.

Rainbow blinked once, very slowly, and then again.

"I'd ask how cats taught you to be a hero, but what I'm really confused about is how cats taught you to... walk and speak and stuff."

"They already can speak, and walking, that was something I had to do on my own. I walked on all fours for a little while though! But mom was the one all about beating up bad guys and junk, I learned it from her!"

She shrugged. "Don't just think of 'em as 'meow meow' cats. You gotta remember my world'd different. Heck, ponies don't do half the things you guys can. Worlds are just weird."

"So they're like Equestrian ponies except they're cats."

Mind. Blown.

"Yeah, pretty much. It might be more weird to me if it wasn't always like that, you know? It's just always been."

Rainbow shrugged. "I just never heard of it being like that with CATS before. But then again we don't have humans in Equestria, so I don't think of it the same way anyway, y'know?"

"Yeah, but there's also no humans where I'm from. They used to live, but some major stuff happened back way before I was born. Wars and mutations and all this stuff! So I'm just happy I got to grow up with an awesome family and the best sis ever!"
