Goodbye Dollet and Thanks for All the Fish! (backdated to Sept 28)

Summary: It's an excuse to pump dance music really really loudly, tbh.

The party was put together ridiculously fast, but everyone who decided to help went all out, and the place is pretty damn awesome. There are refreshments, strobe lights, a loudass music setup, and lots of space to dance. Come on in and have a blast! Garden will be sailing off in the morning, and then it's back to school. Time to get in that last hurrah!

"Dude, by all means. No way I'd be leading when I know that I'll just trip over my own feet!"

Fionna followed, cautiously. Tipsy or not, trying to dance was definitely going to sober her up.

Kory chuckled and started for the dance floor, not before offering Fionna her hand to walk out there with her.

"It's okay. I felt the first way when I first started dancing. It gets easier. Usually most dances start with the same basic moves and it gets fancier from there."

Fionna gratefully took her hand, of course. She had no idea how you even started this, had only seen bits and pieces of this kind of thing in Gumball's balls.

"I usually, you know, bounce around and stuff when I dance. How does this work?"

Once they are out on the dance floor Kory turned to her. "Well, the basic of it is we stand facing each other, you put your hands here-" She guided Fionna's hands to where they were supposed to be. "The person who is leading, their hands go here-" And she moved her hands.

"Then it is a very basic step. I step towards you and you step back, then we step to the side, then we do the reverse and we keep doing that. It's done slowly. One two three, one two three."

And she would try to show her how to do it.

"Oh, uh, ok," Fionna said, apparently forgetting how intimate this stuff was. It was nothing like what she and Namur were doing earlier, where you got to use all your awesome agility and flips! This was just...really close. Was that why all those couples were into it so much?

One two three. One tw-trip stumble. Ok, try that again. One two th-ow, stubbed toe.

"This seems harder than it should be."

It was more intimate, but Kory had no problems unless Fionna did. She didn't have the same issues with being close to others that some people did. She knows they are just friends so she doesn't see the need to worry about it.

"It's okay. We can go slower."

The only adjustment Fionna had to make was the lack of movement...and the fact that going this slow made Fionna a total klutz for some reason. The intimacy was really more of a "not much space to move" thing.

"Er, ha, yeah, let's do that. I'm kinda sucking right now."

She nodded. "Okay, we'll do that. And we can take a step back for practicing."

She moved her hands so they could take a step apart. Maybe that would make it easier.

Fionna stepped back, and this time, she actually gave a good attempt, klutziness aside. She was blushing pretty bad though, for good reason.

"T-thanks," she mumbled. "I've always been not so great at dances like these."

"That's fine. I wasn't either when I first started taking the class."

And she showed her again, a bit slower this time.

"This is the way they dance at balls in my world too," Fionna confided. "But never did that, because, you know, more of a looker, not a girl that was gonna be swept off her feet or whatever. It feels weird trying to do it now, so different from just moving around and flipping."

She did try to mimic Starfire now though.

"What do you mean? I'm sure there is someone who would want to dance with you. You are a very sweet person. But it does make it harder to learn. The only ones I've learned are partner. Maybe... after this you could show me yours?"

She took it slow and counted the steps for Fionna.

Fionna laughed. "Here? I dunno how many people can actually do tat ballroom stuff. I guess I can always ask some of my bros, some of them might maybe know, but I doubt it. 'Sides, I always though this kinda dance is better taught like this, but, you know, with a dress."

She gestured to her usual state of dress, blue shirt, skirt, knee high socks and, of course, her bunny hat.

"Show you my dancing? You didn't see it?"

"Here or at home. Here all of the cadets have to learn it at some point so it seems more if they have taken the class. It is easier to actually do this, but I don't think people would want to learn it the exact moment you needed it."

"I saw briefly." She's been running around all evening.

"Yeah, I don't really get why you have to take this as a requirement," Fionna said, shaking her head. "I mean, we just dance, shouldn't that just be an elective or something?"

She frowned. "Darn. Oh well, I'll show you later!"

"I don't know. It seems to be a very sophisticated way of thinking, having dances and having to know exactly how to dance. I haven't really seen a reason to need it yet."

"I'm sorry I didn't see it earlier. But yes, I would like to see it later." She smiled brightly.

Fionna sniffed. "That's not really my forte. Is it yours? I'm more the kinda girl getting my hands dirty, and if I'm gonna go some place for a dance, you know, I'm gonna DANCE, where you move around a lot!"

She nodded eagerly. "Sure! But I guess I should learn how to do this right now."

"Well, sort of. I mean if I were back home I'd have to know these things but I hadn't really learned any of them before I had to leave. My friends tried teaching me so dances, but they weren't like this at all."

She chuckled. "Well, whenever you are ready show me, I'd like to learn."

"No kidding! So if these aren't the types of dances you do, how do you dance where you're from?"

She nodded. "First, ball room dancing, and then I will show you how I get down!"

"Well, the ones my friends taught me, they were faster and a lot more moving. The music was usually more interesting too. Ballroom dancing music isn't too terribly exciting."

"Yes, I look forward to that!" She wanted to learn as many types of dances as possible. That was the good thing about this place. She got the chance to learn so much.

"Boy, you're telling me! This kinda music puts me to sleep. It's way better if you're all romantical and all, but if you're not, its kind of a drag. I like to dance more freestyle!"

"It is. I admit."

Kory stepped back to watch the dance. Well, it certainly wasn't anything she had seen before, but it was interesting.

"That was definitely not one that my friends knew about."

Fionna laughed. "Kinda in your face, huh? I just wanted to mess around a bit! Plus, people kinda say I got a big caboose, might as well do somethin' with it. I learned it here though."

"That dancing style is definitely more attention grabbing. But if you are having fun with it, then that's what is important."

Kory wasn't sure if that was a style that interested her, but it did look like fun at least.

"Someone here showed it to you?"

"I am!" Fionna said, winking. "You get to do flips and move around and its pretty fun!"

She chuckled. "Nah, I looked it up! I'll probably only show it to you too-I have no idea what the bros would say if I danced like that! Though it would be funny to see Namur choke."
