What is family without a birthday?

Despite everything that had been going on, a party was needed and so a party was had. Thatch finished placing the last of the presents on the table, similar to the one they'd used for Namur's party, and turned up the music so as to lure any passersby. The more the merrier, since Ace would like that and who knew how many parties they'd be able to do in the future? And with who?

The tables are piled high with food. Meat heavy but feel free to dig in. Mind the sunflower seeds.

Thatch requested something that could be set on fire. Espio has provided, although he has had to bring his little camping stove along. In retrospect, he figured he should have thought it through first.

He wasn't going to serve it just yet though. Serving this thing was for after everyone had eaten most of everything else. Instead, he poked at the other things available to eat.

"...is... is this a dried scorpion...?"

"Yeah! Cool huh!" Ace said as he flitted over to the chameleon. He had traded in his cowboy hat for a party hat instead and was all smiles and giggles. Clearly he had already been into the rum. He also neglected to mention that the scorpions were for a dare. He's playful right now and wanted to see if Espio would eat it without prompting.

"Even though I'm the only person here who eats this kind of thing?" Espio wondered, confused, as he picked it up. The idea of it being for a dare didn't even cross his mind. "Or at least I think I'm the only one. Where did Thatch even find this, anyway?"

Of course he ate it, without the slightest hint of reservation. Well, he wasn't going to waste a perfectly good crunchy bug-like thing, was he?

"Alright then, remind me to not dare you to eat those later. Just out of curiosity, is there anything you wouldn't eat?" Ace asks as he moves over to eat one himself just to show he can and would.

[espio]

"I don't like eggs," Espio said, with a shrug, but he tilted his head curiously. Dare? ...oh yes, humans and their aversion to 'creepy crawlies' as food. "Also, newsflash: I'm a chameleon. That is the kind of thing I'm designed to eat. Maybe not scorpions specifically, but..."

Ace smiled and nodded taking that knowledge and locking it away for the future. "Well, food is food. There isn't much I won't at least try first."

[espio]

"There's a few foods that are just kinda... ugh, though," Espio mused. "I once explained what balut was to Marco. I don't think he was very happy with me."

"That was not very nice, Espio. He would take offense to that." Ace frowned and rubbed at his neck a moment. "Wanna get something to drink?"

[espio]

Espio shrugged. "I didn't really explain it directly," he pointed out. "I just came across it when reading and thought 'dumb humans need to learn there's worse food out there than just bugs'."

"And sure. I wouldn't mind a drink."

Ace just gave him a weary look. He could only imagine how Marco handled that knowledge.

Walking over to the bar, Ace poured them both a drink and offered him the glass. "To good friends?" He asked holding out his glass in salute.

Attempted to threaten the kitchen that had never served it armed with only a blanket and a chameleon, before getting distracted by the shocking revelation that lizards have sex.

"Sure," he said, with a tilt of his head in agreement, mimicing the movement.

Ace clinked their glasses and then took a deep drink. He loved rum. It was so good. While this place's rum wasn't as good as that back home, it was still delicious.

"I wonder how many people will come, I wish you could have joined us at home for a party. So many people and so much food and booze. It was a celebration like nothing else."

"CHOMP, YEOMP."

These were likely the sounds one hears when Fionna sees a free pile of food. She was die hard about eating, on par (almost) with some of her pirate family, and is more than happy to even chomp on a scorpion or two.

It needed salt.

"The food is good huh?" Ace grinned as he stepped over to Fionna. He would have hugged her but she was eating and he knew he didn't like to be bothered too much when he himself was eating.

"'Oo beth...EY!" Fionna swallowed, then gave her bro a hug. "How's it going?!

"Pretty good sis. I'm assuming you just said Happy Birthday right?" He chuckled and returned her hug with enthusiasm. He even picked her up and spun her around once before setting her back down.

"Yeah...ah! Heha!" Fionna didn't ind being spun around, and was grinning.

"Ready for your big day?"

"Big day?" He asked. He wasn't sure what she was talking about to be honest, I mean today was his birthday and as far as he knew nothing else was coming up other than the start of the second trimester.

"Yeah, your birthday!" Fionna said, grinning. "That's kinds of a deal for people here too, right?"

"Yeah, seems to be. I mean I never really celebrated my birthdays before joining up with Marco and the others, so it's really comforting to be able to celebrate with my family here too. Makes me not as homesick I suppose."

[fionna_time]

Fionna sighed. "Yeah, actually, that's what you guys are for me too. I mean, I'd be pretty depressed, missing Cake everyday if you all weren't here."

Ace nodded hugged her tightly. "Glad you could be here, sis."

"So am I! So any idea what's gonna happen in this birthday celebration?"
