Summary: Grell has a new puppet!
The day was just like any other day. Wake up, drag self out the bed, get beautiful and go meet with Will so they could walk to class together. He hadn't taken much notice to William's behavior, as he was too busy with his own damn nightmares that robbed him of sleep. Thankfully, makeup worked wonders. Currently dressed in black jeans with a red shirt, Grell was on his way to Will's room. It didn't take long before he was knocking on the door.
"Come in," William's voice drowsily echoed along the empty dorm as the voice's owner stepped out of his bedroom. Unlike last week, William's school uniform was literally covered in wrinkles, and his necktie was fastened up crookedly. It was a very un-William like sight to behold.
Grell waited for the door to open and stepped in. It was a wonder he knocked at all! It was obvious that Grell was not himself. "I hope you're not oversleeping--" Freezes in his stride and notices how askew William was. HIS William! That truly woke him up fully, resting a hand on a hip. "...you can't go to class like this."
William gave Grell a harsh glare, or it would of been harsh if he would of been able to put more energy into doing it. "I have no choice. This is my best suit..." William muttered
"You're obviously sick, William. You never look so unkempt!" Grell frowns and puts down his bag before stepping towards William. "Remove your clothes."
"But... there are classes..." William sleepily said as he mindlessly followed Grell's orders automatically in his state of mind
There was little to no resistance, which was another sign that Will was not in his right frame of mind. He'd worry over that later. There was an emergency to solve: getting rid of these wrinkly clothes! He took the jacket and button down shirt and laid them on the bed before going to Will's closet. He had bought a black shirt for Will as a welcoming present days ago, and noticed the tag was still on it. "I'm glad you kept my gift, darling~!" Rips off the tag and tosses it somewhere. "I knew it would come in handy!" Goes over to Will and takes off his glasses, setting them gingerly upon his own head before slipping the shirt over Will. "Put your arms through." He had always wanted to play dress up with Will! One of his secret fantasies.
...William hardly heard a word that Grell was saying. His eyes keep sliding closed as he absently allowed Grell to dress him.
There were voices in Grell's ear that began to whisper at him again, swatting them away with a hand as he focused more on the task at hand. Slacks with a t-shirt, and the finishing touch of a suit jacket would make Will acceptable to go out. Now all he needed was to fix his hair. Looks up and notices Will's eyes closed before kicking his shin. "Don't sleep!"
The sudden jolt of pain jerked William out of the light sleep he had drifted into. "What was that about?" William snapped as he moved his legs out of reach. "And why is everything fuzzy?"
"I should be asking you that, Will," Grell huffed, pulling out a comb and going towards Will's hair. "Now hold still so I can fix your hair. It's a mess."
"Just do not mess it up too horribly.' William muttered as he rubbed his eyes. "Where are my glasses?"
"On my head," Grell meticulously parted the hair and combed the brown locks into place. He knew how Will liked his hair, so he didn't need a warning on how to do it. Looks to sleepy green eyes with a slight frown. "...haven't you been getting sleep?"
"No... I have been studying," William replied, waiting for Grell to finish with his hair.
"You're such a terrible liar," Grell finished combing his hair before placing the comb back into his pocket. He gave Will a solemn look, which was...odd. "You're having nightmares, too." It wasn't hard to figure out, since everyone seemed to have those tell tale signs, but for even William to be affected was a bit unsettling.
"It wasn't a lie. I have been busy studing my new courses." William muttered as he stood up, slightly off tilt. "I have been unable to sleep, so I study."
Grell sighed before reaching atop his head and putting William's glasses back onto his face. "Right, well, we should get to class then if you don't want to be late." Grell wasn't one to care about tardiness, but walking with William meant being on time.
"I suppose that you are correct..." William covered a yawn with his hand."What are the classes?" he asked as he gathered his books.
Grell paused in gathering his backpack and looked to William incredulously. William was the type to remember his schedule by his first hour of arriving! He went over to the other reaper and places a wrist at his neck, checking for a fever. "...classes where you're NOT going to today!" No fever, so...delirious? "You're clearly not well enough to attend, let alone take accurate notes for us."
"I can too take notes..." William huffed with an almost pout on his face as he stood next to Grell. It was pretty clear that sleep was nessary to keep William calm and collected.
For Grell, this...was unsettling...and cute! William pouting was something he only dreamed of! But at the moment there was cause for concern, even if Grell wasn't usually the type to care for others. But...it was William! They went pretty far back, so it was only natural for him to feel worry. He took his hand and tugged William over to his bed. "These nightmares may be robbing you of your sleep, but you are still as stubborn as usual." Sits William onto the edge of the bed, still holding onto his hand. On second thought...perhaps sleep would be the last thing he needed, but...William was loopy! Then his green eyes lit up with an idea. It was a matter of keeping them both awake long enough for them not to sleep, even though they eventually had to. "How about you tell me about your nightmares?"
William was absentmindedly leaning against Grell, before he drowsily asked, "What do my nightmares have to do with school?"
"I never said they did~." Grell looks over to the sleepy William and sighs. "I could tell you about mine, if you feel so shy~." Grell had to admit, being this close to William was nice, even if he was too delirious to probably remember later.
"But what about classes?" William asked, his head dipping down as the ability to keep his head up escaped him. "Missing them is not an option," his voice was thick with sleep.
"Classes will still be there, so don't worry," Grell replied, squeezing Will's hand in an effort to keep him awake. "...let me tell you a story..." Idly looks around William's impeccably clean room, besides the pile of clothes he discarded just moments ago.
Their hands were still linked, so he wasn't going to let go anytime soon, well aware that William was still loopy. His attention was caught on the window, seeing such a lovely day out before speaking again. The tale wasn't all happy and colorful as most would think. As Grell continued, it became more apparent that it explained everything about him. Will seemed to be listening, or something similar, it was hard to tell. Not as if Grell was paying attention, too wrapped up in his own self, as usual.
When he finished, there was a dark chuckle. "They made me what I am today..." Suddenly, those voices started coming back, making Grell squeeze the hand he was holding onto tightly while the other hand was balled into a fist. But...he was smiling. A crazed smile. "Their screams...I can still hear their beautiful screams..."
"Remind me to thank them..." William yawned as he rubbed his eyes.
"You want to thank them for all that?" Grell rose an eyebrow before giggling. "Such a sadist, I knew it!"
William was silent for a moment before deciding to speak about his past. The words were slurred due to the lack of sleep he had, but the words were still heard and understood. Grell was...in awe to say the least, and rage. If only he had been there, he's make sure it would rain blood. His thoughts were interrupted when he noticed William slipping into slumber. He gave William him a nudge. "You can't sleep, Will!" Just the thought of sleep made Grell's skin crawl.
"I'm awake...' William lightly whispered, his eyes fluttering half open. Grell gave a sigh, shaking his head. Anger came so easily for Grell, so it would be a while before he could make the imagery William provided fade. "They're no better than those whores..." Another moment of silence passed before he spoke again. "I'm sorry that happened to you."
"It was in the past. There is nothing that can change what happened now..."
Grell gave a soft laugh at the statement. "But it's the sentiment that counts, right--" Suddenly there was a lapful of William, cutting off the end of his sentence. "...William?" He gave a shake of his shoulder in worry. "This isn't funny, Will..." Sighs heavily, realizing that William was such a wimp at staying awake! Grell was doing it for close to seventy two hours now, although the pull of sleep was getting to him too. Deciding to get them both comfortable, Grell scooted back to lay them both onto the bed, with his back to the wall at the head of the bed so William could use his body as a sort of support pillow. He didn't want to leave, more than likely because he didn't want to be alone. He removed William's glasses and set them aside, really looking at how peaceful Will was while asleep. 'If only you were this easy to handle all the time...' he thought with a low chuckle, holding the other close.
It was interesting how different William looked fast asleep compared to when he is awake. Those furrowed eyebrows were at a perfectly neutral position, and with his eyeglasses removed, the dark circles around his eyes were easy to see. Grell believed some foundation or concealer could really help with those dark circles, but he settles for tracing out those features. Paying attention to those circles, Grell wished that his gloveless fingertips could make them go away. Being so close to the other like this, and not fondling him, was making him feel comfortable. It had been ages since he was this close to anyone. The pull of slumber was calling him, but wanted to stay awake in case Will had a nightmare again. Not as if the reaper needed babying, but he understood how one must felt after waking from such a vivid scene of your own death.
The rapid flickering under his eyelids signaled the start of William's newest nightmare. The elder death god's eyebrows knitted together.
Grell continued to watch him sleep (because that isn't creepy at all, okay? Okay.) before noticing movement beneath his eyelids and a hand drifting to his neck. He bit his lip softly before trying to call his name again. "...William?" The other reaper only stirred against Grell, his lips parting as if to say something, but no sound came out. Underneath those eyelids were those flashes of a nightmare that robbed Will of his sleep, and it was clear that the usually stoic reaper was not enjoying any of it.
'Oh, William...' Anger began to consume him again at seeing his potentially only friend suffering like this. Grell caressed his face gently, hoping Will would wake soon from the nightmare. "Let me see those eyes of yours. Wake up.."
Grell's plead for William to wake up fell on mute ears as he continued to suffer from the nightmare. Grell was sure that Will wouldn't wake on his own, so he shook him again, a bit more forceful than before, in a last ditch effort to get the other to awaken. His hair cascaded around them in the process, a waterfall of red.
At that last attempt to awaken Will, he was finally able to snap his eyes open. Green eyes rapidly looked around, trying to make sure of what was around him. "Sutcliff?"
Relieved that the other woke up finally, Grell gave him a look. "Why do you insist on calling me by my last name? It's 'Grell'..."
Those few minutes of rest was able to restore a bit of control back to William as he pushed himself away from Grell, releasing the other's hand. "It is the best way to distinquish between coworker and intimate relationships," he said as he glanced at the small watch and frowned. "We missed our first class."
Grell crossed his legs on the bed and gave a look of disappointment. 'It had to end sometime...' he thought before shrugging. "You seem to be alert now, so you can still catch that class..." Notice how he didn't mention himself in that sentence.
"You as well Sutcliff. You will not spend the day being lazy. You will be attending the rest of your classes, even if I will have to physically drag you to them and take notes myself." William was not making an idle threat, and it wouldn't be the first time he dragged Grell somewhere. Grell scoffed and stood up from the bed, his back to William. "Tempting, but no." He went to grab his his backpack, not even bothering to look at the other. "You'll need to make better persuasion than that." Besides, Grell was suddenly feeling moody.
Clenching his teeth, William made an attempt to grab Grell's bag. "Sutcliff...due to the fact that we have already missed one class, and it will be counterproductive to attempt to go to more classes in our current state, it would be best that we stick together."
"Then at least call me by my name!" Grell glared with clenched, sharp teeth. "If you want to stick together, fine, but in doing so, I'd like to be addressed as 'Grell'." He wasn't going to bend on this. Moody and angry were never good combinations for a person such as Grell.
"Fine then, Sut--Grell..." calling the other by his name left a bitter and sour taste in William's mouth. "We will stay together for the time being."
Grell gave a satisfied grin and hooked his arm through with Will's. "Better~! I'm yours for as long as you want me~!" One small victory for Grell!
"This is not a date Sutcl- Grell. Just a diversion..." William said as he unhooked their arms. "We will attend the make up courses once everything returns to normal."
"Fine, fine. Whatever you say, Will~!" Ah, that smile Grell often wore. It was misleading at times, but he was going to be on his best behavior...which also meant he was on his worst behavior. Hmm..
William was just glad that he had a few minutes of rest. It would of been a horrid combination of an emotional and easily bossed around William, and a delusional and moody Grell. "Have you visited outside the school grounds?" William asked as he lightly thumbed the pearl inset of his sponsor ring, feeling like he was already tarnishing his sponsor's generosity.
"I made it a point to scout around when I first arrived. Just in case." Of course, the first place he went to was to a shipping area, but he eventually got bored and took a one person tour inside and outside of the garden.
"Then today you will give me a guided tour of the surroundings. It will provide me will relevant details, and keep the both of us awake."
"I will be your cute little tour guide and show you around!" Grell gave William a saucy wink before carrying his bag on his shoulder. "By the end of today, you'll know where everything is, even that secret spot in the training center~!"
Perhaps It was better for William to be sleep deprived. At least then he wouldn't of minded the way that the disastrous red head was shamelessly flirting with him.
