Summary: This is a trial thread for Kiwi for the second sample of Colette Brunel's application. Headmaster Cid welcomes a new arrival to the Final Fantasy VIII world.

[Ah, finally... the last interview for the day. And certainly an abnormal case. He gives the file of the new applicant, Colette Brunel, a brief look-through before calling her into his office.]

Brunel, if you would.

[Colette enters the office cautiously, her wide, worried eyes surveying her surroundings. Why is she here again? The people who described it earlier were nice, if a just a little scary, but she really didn't understand. "Time compression" or not, isn't this like running away?

Oh! There's a man there! Of course, he is the one who called her in. Tangling her fingers together awkwardly, she stands in front of him, not sure whether to look at his face or at the floor, and shifting between the two.

Then, she raises her hands and smiles apologetically. She's being silly, isn't she?]

[The Headmaster levels her with a scrupulous gaze. Certainly, general procedure was to introduce oneself when called upon by authority. She seems like a sweet girl, perhaps a little on the timid side. He removes his glasses before speaking.]

At ease. Do you speak?

[Colette shakes her head in reply, and goes for the notebook she'd been given to communicate. But - oh wait! No! She was so worried about seeing this stranger that she had left the notebook behind! After people were so kind to give it to her, too... how embarassing!

Just in case it had slipped out of her hands, she checks the floor just behind her. No, not there. Face a little red, she turns back to the man, and shakes her head again. No, she can't speak at all.]

[Well, this is a pickle. He rummages through his drawers for a moment before producing a notepad and a pen.]

Here. It has a little bit of a mess on it, I hope you don't mind. [He says with a smile, hoping to calm her frayed nerves. Sure enough, there are stick figure drawings and miscellaneous notes scattered on the top page, a sure sign of a bored mind.]

And make yourself comfortable, while you're at it.

[Taking the notepad and pen with a nod of gratitude, Colette notices the doodles and smiles. Upon it, beneath a stick figure, she writes:

"thank you very much"

And lifts it up to show. She's not sure how things are done here, and this place is so different from Sylvarant, but she feels a little more comfortable.]

[He nods. He can see that she's relaxed some, for which he is grateful.]

I'm sure you must feel overwhelmed. It's not every day you arrive in a new world, is it? If you have any questions you'd like to ask before we get started, I'm all ears.

Ah... all eyes, in this case.

[Colette thinks about this for a moment. The most prominent question she wants the answer to is how to get home - she needed to go home! - but her coming here is because nobody knows how. The headmaster wouldn't know, either, surely?

Any other questions she has are either related to her "condition" or her worries about how to settle in. She didn't want to worry anyone with the first, and answers to the second would surely come anyway, so she shakes her head. Not at the moment, no.]

No? In that case, let's begin.

[He adjusts his glasses on his nose and pushes on to the standard line of questioning.]

First of all, can you describe for me what sort of world you came from and what occupation, if any, you had?

[Again, she pauses to think, frowning slightly with regret. This gave her some more time, sure, but she loves Sylvarant dearly. She really needs to go back! She hates the small part of her that's relieved to have escaped.

She's not sure how to describe Sylvarant, or how to keep it brief on paper, but she tries. It still takes a short time to write, and there are several occasions where she crosses things out.

I come from Sylvarant. It's mostly peaceful with lots of small towns, but ~~people are~~ ~~there is a mana shor~~ but there are a lot of monsters and ~~some people~~ Desians who imprison people and make them suffer.

I'm the Chosen of Mana. I'm on a journey to ~~regenera~~ ~~seal the~~ restore peace.

There. She hopes that didn't take her too long, and holds it up with the slightest breath of a sigh.]

[She's rewarded for her troubles with an encouraging smile. He can only imagine how difficult it must be for her. After he's finished reading the summary, he leans back in his seat. For now, he won't inquire as to what she means by "Chosen of Mana".]

I see... so, then, it's safe to assume you have some history of combat? [He looks a little apologetic to have to ask such a question at all.]

[She nods. Since there are a lot of monsters in Sylvarant, she's encountered many on her journey. Besides that, she has had to fight the guardian of each seal, and various desians. Even some of the Grand Cardinals!

Yes. I fought lots of monsters with my friends.

She holds this up for a moment, before deciding to add something, wondering if it will help.

I use two chakrams.]

My, certainly an unusual choice of weapon!

[He's glad to hear that she won't be completely out of place within Garden, and it shows in his face.]

Moving onward: would you say that you follow orders well? Or do you prefer to do the ordering?

[Colette tilts her head and looks up as she considers this. What her companions has to say is usually what she would call advice more than orders, even Kratos. It takes her a moment for her to realise that her duty probably counts as following orders, and she makes a small motion of recognition.

I ~~think I~~ take orders well. My responsibility is important and I can't just ignore it!

But I don't really give orders myself.

She wonders if that's important as she holds it up, looking quite solemn.]

Not to worry, not to worry. You're doing just fine.

[He takes a moment to consider her answers before giving her a nod.]

I think that about covers it. I don't foresee you having any problems fitting in here at Garden.

[He stands and inclines his head, as if to bow.]

Welcome to the SeeD program, Cadet Brunel.

[She smiles, a little awkwarly, and nods a thank you, wondering if she's dismissed. She writes one last thing down,

Thank you. I'm sorry if I caused any trouble. I hope I fit in okay!

This time, she holds out the pen and notepad to offer it back, since she has a notepad already... somewhere.]

Okay, that should do it! Thank you for applying and we'll see about getting a verdict on your application as soon as possible!
