Office Hours

Summary: Snow is a good Instructor who makes himself available to the students if they need anything.



Once classes finished for the day and the students had entered the blocks of time set aside for tutoring and extracurricular activities, Snow moved back into the training classrooms to hold what he called 'office hours'. The classroom wasn't much of an office, of course, but he figured he'd do more good in it than behind a desk.

He'd let his own classes know that he'd be available, but he hadn't specified that it had to be martial-arts-related. He'd passed word to the other Instructors too, just so they knew he was here (and please don't book the classroom at the same time!).

Until someone showed up looking for him, though, he was content to pummel a punching bag. He had to keep in shape himself, right?

"I guess we are, aren't we?" She smiled at the thought, truly glad. "I'd never really thought about it that way."

"With all the time Light and I... and everyone else, spent together, we ended up not thinking of it as anything but." He looked at her. So sweet, and beautiful, and perfect. "And you were there with us, in our hearts, always."

She didn't even try to hide that fact that yes, she regretted not being able to be there with the rest of them. Hearing him talk about everything they'd done, all they'd seen, how much they'd grown into a family really... well it sucked really. Even his reassurance that she'd been there, in their hearts, the whole time wasn't hardly near enough.

"I know you're right it's just..." Serah trailed off, moving in to wrap her arms around him as tightly as she could. Never again. Never again would she miss so much of their lives. She wasn't sure how she'd keep this promise, but she'd find a way somehow. "I wish I could have been there. That's all."

"If you had been there, it never would have happened the way it did," he said, arms folding about her tightly. "It was as much our destiny as being together to begin with. And for all the pain we suffered being apart, and going through everything... it was worth it to spare us the pain of your sister being at odds with me, and with us. We wouldn't have let it tear us apart, and you wouldn't have given up on Light, but it would have hurt all of us. You most of all."

"I know." She sighed, burrowing into his arms to pull as much strength and reassurance from Snow as she possibly could. She understood that it would have changed everything and all that, she did! That didn't stop Serah from selfishly wishing she could have been there anyway.

"I guess instead of worrying about the time we didn't get to spend together I should focus on the time we can spend together now instead."

"And that's going to be a really long time," he murmured into her hair, cheek pressed against her head.

"Always, right?" Serah murmured back, her hands digging into the fabric of his clothes a little bit. "You and me, we'll be together always won't we?" Just like he'd promised on the dock that one day even if it seemed like a lifetime ago now.

"I promised you the world, Serah," he murmured. "And I'm part of the world. So that ought to work out, right?"

"You're not part of the world Snow." Serah corrected, voice muffled slightly after she buried her face against his chest. "Sometimes I think you are my world."

"Then that makes me the luckiest world in the universe," he murmured in return.

"The only world that matters in the universe, as far as I'm concerned." After a moment of just enjoying his arms, she pulled back to look at him with a smile.

"So while I'm here we're working on locks in self defense class. I thought maybe you could help me practice?"

"Of course I will," he said, arm tightening so that as he stood, he could set her gently on her own feet. "That's even technically what these office hours are for."

The mischief was back in her eyes already. "You mean they're not really for flirting with cute students after all?"

"There are cute students in this school who aren't you?" Snow opened his eyes wide in mock shock. "I hadn't noticed."

"So it's the other Instructors I should be worried about instead?" She tried to look stern, but the fact that she was trying hard not to giggle really ruined the image.

"Yeah, Light and Tom are your real rivals," he said, rolling his eyes exaggeratedly. "You've figured it all out, Serah. I can't hide these things any longer."

"I knew it! This is why I waited so long to introduce you to my sister. All it took was saving the world with her and now you're hopelessly in love with her aren't you? It's because she's older too, isn't it?" She tried for a dramatic, woe-filled look but sadly her acting chops were at their limits. Bursting into laughter, she can't help but lean against him as her shoulders shake a bit.

"She literally knocked me off my feet," he said through his grin. Her laughter triggers his, as he tightened his grip around her.

"She has that affect on some people I hear." Lightning was rather known for her temper after all. The odds that she'd knocked several people off their feet for bullying her sister when they were little are quite high.

"Well fine." It was hard to talk through her giggles, but she managed. "You can look, but you can't touch." Of course that just set off a new round of giggles all together. This entire conversation was just ridiculous.

He actually wondered, just a little, what Serah would think of everything he and Light had been through. Not that he felt a single spark of attraction to the girl he called Sis out of love, not because she happened to be related to his fiancee.

Serah was, after all, the more mature of the Farrons sisters.

"I promise I'll keep my hands almost entirely to myself," he said, as solemnly as he could through the mirth.

"Your teaching work doesn't count." Serah smiled, eyes crinkling slightly. "They don't know what they're missing. They've got an instructor who kisses good enough to teach about it after all."

"That's not a class I'd want to teach," Snow said, a little horrified. "By some cruel twist I'd end up with Espio and Seifer as my students. That might be one thing a hero can justifiably back down from."

"I thought you said kissing instruction involved hand outs and lectures?" She teased, rather amused by his reaction. "What makes you think those two students need kissing instruction, anyway?"

"I know. It's still terrible." He made a pretty genuine face as he shuddered. "And with my luck it'd somehow be implemented as remedial courses for both of them, I don't know why."

"What's so bad about those two in particular that would make it so bad?" She couldn't help but giggle at the face he made though. He really must hate that idea. "I'd offer to help you teach, but I don't think they'd appreciate that very much."
