What was Katsura thinking?

Character(s): Edge and Katsura.

Location: Balamb Town (primarily)

Rating: PG?

Open/Closed/Finished: Closed.

Summary: Katsura has agreed to go on a date with Edge.

Having agreed to meet the elven Instructor for dinner (but not sparring), Edge had taken up a pose by the Garden's entrance, waiting patiently for her arrival.

Oh yes, this had every sign of being an excellent day ahead.

The Instructor is late.

Partly this was because--well, she hadn't been on a date in more years than she could count. And that meant that she was not sure what, precisely, to do. She'd settled on wearing a simple white woolen dress, and twisted flowers into her hair to differ from the hairband she wore every day.

However, she still brought along the case containing her bow and quiver, and if Edge looked closely he could probably see the golem-like shale spider keeping a respectful distance from his hunter.

Katsura blinked at the rose for a moment, and then smiled. "It's lovely, thank you!" Though instead of pinning it in her hair, she tucked it into the collar of her dress.

"I'm very sorry to have kept you waiting, Edge. I was in a quandary as to what to wear, and that's what took me so long."

"Yes, please," she said, pink tinging her cheeks. Not too old to be embarrassed, after all.

"You said you had someplace in mind?" Katsura asked. Even to her, that seemed a little lame, and she tried to cover it with a smile. Why was this so difficult?

"I seem to recall you saying that," Katsura said. "And yes, I like seafood. I did a lot of fishing back on Azeroth, but I've gotten out of the habit since I arrived here, I admit."

"That is Sulphur. He's my shale spider, one of my pets. With what you said, he's along as...a security measure, so to speak. Obviously I'm not wearing armor," the hunter said with a dry chuckle.

"I plan to have him stay outside the restaurant, unobtrusively on a wall." Where Katsura hoped that he wouldn't get in too much trouble. Sulphur was one of her more steady companions, after all.

"He came from Deepholm, the Elemental Plane of Earth," Katsura explained. "Which may be why. Though humans such as yourself have certainly been there."

Well, maybe not like Edge. Katsura shrugged a little, reflecting her thoughts.

"Sulphur tends to be one of my closer companions. He's a little less excitable than Kitsune, and it's easier to explain webbing than say...poison, if I brought my scorpid along."

That just earned the ninja a look, one pointed eyebrow raised high.

Humans were still odd. She shook her head.

"So, how long of a walk do we have? I see I am not so good at small talk as I thought." Katsura gave a dry chuckle.

Katsura chuckled at that. "The ones I have now are only a fraction--I used to have more, back when I was on Azeroth, before I arrived. I am a hunter, and my pets are more than just companions. They are partners, so to speak--we work together. I traveled to quite a few places to tame the ones I have now, and the ones who did not arrive with me, as well."

That made her think. "You know, perhaps I could tame some of the animals here. I never really tried. Mostly because I have been content with what I had."

"Well, I am skilled with ranged weapons. Bows, guns, that sort of thing, though I can use swords or maces well enough to get out of a melee pinch." Katsura chuckled.

"Actually, one of a hunter's ways of training is called beastmaster. The others are survival and marksmanship. I preferred marksmanship and beast mastery, myself."

"It is, at that, but we all have our specialties, do we not?" Katsura asked, giving Edge a smile.

"Whatever do you mean?" she asked, quirking an eyebrow. On one hand, Kat was certain the ninja was flirting. On the other...she wasn't certain what he meant.

Perplexing!

"Ah, I see. And that explains why I didn't think of it. Thrown weapons are not my specialty. I know enough to instruct, of course, or I wouldn't be in this position, but..." Katsura let her words trail off, as she shrugged again.

"Well!" she said, brightly. "That just means you'll have an opportunity to see more of me, if you so choose. Because I certainly wouldn't mind a few pointers."

"Actually, I may have a few spares lying about, depending on what you think you may need, Edge," the elf said. "I have a terrible habit of picking up souvenirs...but ones I might have a use for, some day."

Her lips pursed for a moment, and Katsura chuckled. "But I must say, how smooth of you to arrange a second date before we even finished the first!"

[identity profile] kat-asks-later.livejournal.com 2011-04-06 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I'd imagine you must be very good at hitting your target. Aren't you?"

Katsura chuckled. What WAS she doing? Well...whatever it was, she hadn't had as much fun in...

It was a pity that she couldn't remember.
