hey flathead don't you get mean.
Character(s):
ragesnake and
betwixttocks.
Location: Vriska's place. :> Wherever that is.
Rating: ...PG13 for trollspeak.
Open/Closed/Finished: Closed.
Summary: Karkat decides to take a leaderly check up on another member of his team-- even if she's older and now outranks him. In fact, especially because she's older and now outranks him.
He had honestly deliberated over the idea for a few hours, sitting on the floor in the corner he had deemed his own in the dorm he shared with Duo. Vriska was very obviously older, and John had said she was a SeeD. That meant he outranked her, and Karkat really didn't think he liked that at all. He didn't know shit about how the SeeD program even worked, and he probably wouldn't have even cared were it not for this tiny little detail.
He really wasn't sure he could handle the Scorpio outranking him.
And, maybe, if he were completely truthful with himself, he was just sort of morbidly fascinated with the entire thing. He could pass it off as gauging her to figure out how easy it would be to get to where she was and thus, surpass her, but he was honestly just curious. And maybe a little eager to be in the presence of his living teammates.
But of course he'd never fucking admit that.
It was late evening by the time he finally found her place, knocking roughly on the door and standing there, his hands shoved in his pockets and his shoulders hunched at a sharp angle. He was probably going to regret this.

When she heard the knocks Vriska shut off the TV and pulled the apple from her mouth as she stood up. Opening the door she stared at her 'guest' and raised an eyebrow.
"Vantas."

"Serket what the fuck are you wearing," he asked, rather plainly staring at Vriska's apparent lack of dress. Oh, um. Okay Vriska had grown up, and he was pretty sure that he never had and still very much did not want to see her in as little as she was wearing right then but, uh. You're not thirteen anymore, ma'am.

Leaning against the door frame she frowned. "These are my sleep clothes, if you absolutely muuuuuuuust know. I don't sleep during the day anymore, surprise sur-fucking-prise."

She was sleeping at night, now? God, what had this place done to her. Was it going to do the same to the rest of them? Were they all going to wind up freaky day-dwellers like the humans? He couldn't decide what he thought of that. On one hand it might be easier overall, but on another that was sweeps upon sweeps of a nocturnal lifestyle to undo, and not all of them would adjust well. With it just being himself and Vriska and Nepeta he could probably handle it, Nepeta was liable to sleep during the day a lot anyway just because of her weird cat thing, but...
He shook his head to clear his thoughts. He didn't need to get into this right now.

Bluh. She moved out of the doorway to let him in, closing it behind him.

"Be straight with me here, Vriska, what is this place going to do to Nepeta? I'm still responsible for her." Which wasn't a lie-- Nepeta was sort of like everyone's little sister, as far as Karkat was concerned. Even if his status as Leader was sort of moot here and Vriska was (even if he'd never admit it) probably more qualified since she was older and had been here longer, Karkat was still determined to at least make sure that one of them came out of this okay.
It may have had something to do with the fact that he was pretty sure she was in line to die as soon as Time Compression sent her home again.

"They're going to train you up to be fit and tidy soldiers. This is the military life, Vantas. Once you pass the exam and graduate you become a SeeD and they send you out on missions at every fucking chance and you get to deal with fucking people and it's all fluffbeasts and flowers around here." The apple's side was being successfully torn into by this point, but she stopped and folded her arms.
"... There's also the option of not going to school here."

"So why did you stay?"

"How long have you been here?" God he felt like some kind of drill sergeant. Or those stupid people that had interviewed him when he had first shown up.
