[it is partially because of the former, and his current state definitely has him more than a little weird. So yes, both.

He listens as she speaks, working the turntables and synths--not nearly as practiced as his Strider counterpart, the scratching and beat juggling far less intricate, but the aptitude is definitely there--and queueing up another track.

David takes a long sip from the bottle in front of him--apple juice now, not stout or any of the other potent potables he's broken into over the course of this trip so far.

Part of him thinks his friends might be better off without him. He doesn't particularly care to listen to that part. He knows they need him, for better or for worse, and he needs them just as much. Maybe even more so. He promised himself once that no matter what happened, even if they were to start hating him, he would always be there for them.

I've really got no choice in the matter, have I?

Even if we're doomed to failure, we must not, cannot, fail to fight against it. The game will be won, or otherwise broken.


[this is just said...matter-of-factly. he can't muster the usual fire he might put behind that, not right now.]
