Summary: Both Katara and Toph have some things they just need to vent about.

It had been an interesting week for Katara; Jet's sudden appearance had thrown Katara for a loop, and it's caused for a big conflict of emotions. Their initial conversation hadn't exactly gone well-- while she thought she was ready to forgive him considering how things turned out in the time she was from, Jet had done a good job in reminding Katara exactly why she had been mad at him.

The timing was rather unfortunate; not only was she practically worrying every minute over whether or not Jet and Zuko were killing each other, but she was also getting nervous and anxious over the upcoming SeeD field exam. There wasn't much that she could do to prepare for it, but that didn't stop Katara from worrying and stressing.

She was in her dorm now, laying back in her bed and trying to clear her thoughts. Maybe a nap was in order…

No naps, not on Toph's watch. Aang's friend was still in a coma, Toph was still upset with Aang, and darn it she needed to vent.

So it was an angry Toph who was banging on Katara's door, not even calling out to let Katara know who was there.

Only one person would come banging on her door like that. Letting out a groan, Katara rolled out of her bed and trudged over out of her bedroom and into the common area, towards the entrance door. It took only a press of a button for the door to slide open, and Katara stepped aside to let Toph in.

"What's up?"

Toph held up a thermos. "I've got tea from one of the cool instructors," she said. "I've had a really lousy last couple of weeks, and until my roomie graduates I can't think in my own bedroom. Mind if I hang out with you for a bit?"

Katara pressed the button to have the door slide open. Toph's presence had both Boots and Mr. Stuffybritches coming out from the spare bedroom, and curious they began to circle around Toph's feet.

"No problem; it gets pretty lonely here, especially since I'm so use to traveling with the gang. You're welcome to hang out here whenever. You can even stay in the empty bed when you want since I don't have a roommate."

She walked over to her own bedroom then, plopping down onto the bed and waiting for Toph to do so as well.

"You have cats?" Toph asked, carefully stepping over one and picking the other one up. "Not the feet, fuzzballs." She sat down on the floor by Katara's bed before groaning.

"I'm gonna kill Aang."

"Zuko gave them to me. Well, one of them belonged to Sokka when he was here the first time. I guess I should give it back to him..."

But Toph's comment had Katara widening her eyes.

"Why do you want to kill Aang?"

So Toph filled Katara in on what had happened after she got here--talking to Zuko, finding out about the threat, talking to Aang, talking to Damian, finding out that both Aang and Damian had lied, and then Damian passing out when she went to talk to him.

"What I wanna know is why," she said, scratching one of the cat's ears. "Aang knows better, and I'd promised not to hurt anyone!"

Toph's explanation of her situation with Aang and his friend had Katara's shoulders drooping, a weight setting in on them. Her eyes lowered to the ground, and she waited until Toph had finished speaking before voicing her own thoughts.

"This is all my fault-- I should have realized Aang liked me earlier."

"Katara, as far as I remember, Aang made sure you didn't know," Toph assured her. She reached up and pat her best friend's shoulder. "Heck, it took me a good week to figure it out, and I had the whole 'heartbeat' thing working for me. Trust me, he'll get over it even if I have to bash his brains in with a rock."

"That's not very reassuring." Katara heaved a sigh before shifting a bit in her bed to face Toph. "I didn't want to hurt him. And you can't hurt him, either!"

"Oh, come on. By this point he totally deserves a little beating," retorted Toph. "You didn't do it on purpose, and it was his fault for not confessing sooner. Don't blame yourself, Sugar Queen."

There was a pause before Katara asked in a skeptical tone, "... Did Aang's friend really threaten Zuko? He never told me about it."

Toph nodded. "Oh, yeah. They denied it, but Blockhead slipped up. And then he went into the coma when I finally tracked down the right Damian so I haven't gotten a chance to ask him why." She shrugged. "Zuko probably didn't want to worry you."

"Boys are stupid." A blunt remark from Katara, but considering the things that have happened involving Zuko, Aang and Jet, she felt that it was a valid one.

"What are you going to do about Aang and his friend?"

"I'm going to beat the snot outta Damian." Toph's tone clearly said she thought that was obvious. "I'll deal with Aang after that. If Damian asked him to lie, I'll...do something but not beat the snot out of Aang. If he didn't....still figuring that part out."

She grinned. "At least Sokka's not being an idiot."

That has Katara laughing.

"Toph, Sokka is always an idiot. But surprisingly enough, he's being the least idiotic of everyone."

"Maybe it's an effect of that Time Compression thing," she joked, reaching for one of the kittens. "The smart guys turn stupid and Sokka....well, stays Sokka but is suddenly smart."

"Sokka does have his smart moments... it's just that his idiotic moments overshadow them most of the time."

She flopped back onto the mattress then to stare up at the ceiling.

"... Jet showed up the other day, you know."

That made Toph sit up.

"Jet? That guy from Lake Lao...whatever?"

Katara nodded, not at all moving from her current position from the bed.

"He was here before, when Zuko and I first came here... but then he disappeared. He showed up again, though, while we were in Fisherman's Horizon."

"And did he remember anything from...anywhere?" Toph turned to face Katara, even if she wasn't going to look directly at the spot she figured the other girl was currently sitting. "Or was he totally lost?"

"Totally lost." Katara heaved a sigh, and remained quiet for a couple of moments.

"He came from just before we left him at Lake Laogai."

Toph winced. That was...yeah. "Ouch," she muttered. "So...right before he...?" She gestured in a way that was supposed to mean 'died' but really, could mean anything from 'died' to 'escaped'.
