mm mm good! hopefully.
Character(s): Oerba Dia Vanille, Okumura Rin, and Okumura Yukio
Location: The home-ec room!
Rating: PG?
Open/Closed/Finished: Closed
Summary: It's been a long time coming, but the Okumura brothers finally decide that it's high-time to teach Vanille how to make some sooshee.
It's been several months since Yukio's fishing adventures with Vanille at the beach party, and he can't help but wonder how time has simply flown by. Another year has come and gone (as had a birthday), and now that Rin's by his side once more, the world seems a little more... normal. The other good thing about having Rin here? Yukio can finally have proper and positively delicious Japanese food again.
Sure, Yukio's decent in the kitchen, but his brother is the real chef of the family, so it only seemed right to invite the other Okumura for some sushi making fun. Plus, having another person around might allay some of the, ah, awkwardness he feels around Vanille--or so he hopes. With Rin in the equation, there's a good chance his plan could simply backfire.
In any case, he's alone in the home-ec room preparing the supplies, sleeves rolled up and a smile on his face.

forceddedicated to studying class material. In fact he's got a rather sing songish gleam about him once inside the home-ec room."You may be a genius with books but as far as the kitchen's concerned you sure are a dunce eh Yukio? Lessons on how to make sushi??" Rin snickers, obviously letting the simple request go straight to his ego without understanding the underlying intent his twin had.
"It's a pretty simple dish, but that's what big brother's here for, you'd be lost without me."

Right on time, Vanille walks (nearly skips) into the Home Ec room. It'd been a while since she'd taken the class, but, she was actually rather familiar with it... The class was over, her visits were not. "Ah... Hi!"
no subject
Well, there she is!
At the sound of Vanille's voice, he turns to face her and offers her a warm smile and a wave. Briefly, Yukio shoots Rin a glance to see if his brother even remembers him mentioning the additional company or if he'd just latched onto the idea of "little Yukio needing help" and drowned out the rest.
"I'm glad you could make it, Vanille. This is Rin, my older brother." Technically younger now because of time compression, but he keeps mum on that matter and gestures toward the other all the same. "Nii-san, this is Vanille. I don't know if you've already met..."
no subject
He only looks over to Yukio, as if the younger hadn't mentioned this very fact not but a minute ago. With his poor listening skills and Vanille taking what little attention span he had though, there wasn't much hope for retention.
"...Nope." Rin would have definitely remembered a girl like Vanille, or, at least a girl who wore clothes like Vanille.
no subject
"Mm, nope. I don't think we have, either." Of course, it wasn't like she was against making new friends (exactly opposite that, in fact!) so she gave the (now) younger Okumura twin a big smile and extended her hand toward him. "Nice to meet you!"

Sure, Rin may be the expert chef here, but somehow? Yukio's under the impression that if his brother had been left in charge of getting the supplies and making the food that they would've ended up just eating popsicles or something instead--even if given a shopping list. So as he has little desire of messing up this little gathering, Yukio took it upon himself to do the shopping.
By the time he's brought everything out to the counter, it's pretty crowded there. Yukio's pretty happy with what he's managed to find (including some sushi grade fish, much to his delight!), and he turns back to Rin and Vanille.
"He may not look it, but nii-san's actually pretty good in the kitchen. I thought he could help us a little tonight."
no subject
Sudden third wheel syndrome? Nope, Rin's still sort of caught in the moment of meeting someone new. Though he does send Yukio a look, because dammit why does he always get all the girls.
Though he probably would have been caught up in his own little dream world about Yukio asking for his help, the popsicles and candy would have just been a necessary addition to the shopping list had Yukio given him one. Really for being the older twin by birth, people never trusted him with much responsibility.
"Oh-so you wanted me to teach the both of you how to make sushi then!" Listening skills are probably a large contributor to that afore mentioned trust issue.

Abandoning her position beside Yukio, she did a quick tour of the counter with their ingredients laid out before circling back around to Rin. "That's okay, right?"
no subject
"Is there anything in particular you wanted to try?" he asks this of Vanille, but in the meantime, his gaze keeps drifting to Rin, self-conscious. "Everything on the counter is free game.
"He--" Yukio ribs his brother to get him to focus and stop getting lost in his crayon-colored dream land in which everyone needs his help. "--could probably give you flavor combinations you could try, if there's something in particular you're interested."
no subject
He didn't get a chance to answer the second question though thanks to Yukio's eagerness: to which he gave the 'younger' twin a perplexed look for. His silence alone would be symbol enough that the gears were already starting to move.
"Oi-!!" Of course that was before he got the strike to his side. He'd left his dream land a few minutes ago, and it wasn't crayon colored! It was water colored. Regardless of that, reflex alone made Rin shove his twin back, probably a lot harder than he intended.
no subject
Seemingly unaware of their little squabble, she takes one last look at the ingredients before turning to them both. "Um, well... I don't really know what everything is, so, whatever you think is the one that tastes the best, that's what I want to try!"
Because Yukio's opinion is important!
no subject
Being the more mature one around here, Yukio's just going to pretend that nothing had happened.
"I actually prefer sashimi, which is the raw fish by itself," he replies to Vanille's query. Yukio points as some of said raw fish before his finger goes to hover over something green and paste-like. "You just dip it in some soy sauce mixed with wasabi, which is what this is.
"But I know you mentioned you didn't seem to keen on the idea of eating raw fish..." His gestures at some crab, shrimp, and eel. "These are pretty good for cooking and putting in sushi, too.
"Of course, we can always just cook some fish to put in your sushi, too."
Rin better step it up; Yukio's going to be stealing the cooking spotlight at the rate he's going!
