Summary: Rapunzel's 'Mother' has arrived. Considering the woman used Rapunzel for her hair, kidnapper her from her real parents and stabbed Eugene, well, the news she was at Garden was not all entirely welcome to say the least.

Rapunzel fidgeted, wringing her hands in her lap as she sat on her bed in the shared room after Gothel left and she had calmed down enough to send a message to Eugene and Merlin. Deep breaths. Just because Gothel was here that did not necessarily mean she would be able to do anything too drastic to get access to Rapunzel. There was no tower for her to be kept away in here. Too many people knew Rapunzel was here for Gothel to just try take her somewhere to hide her. Unless she made everyone assume Rapunzel had gone home, that is. And Gothel would do that. If she had been willing to stab and kill Eugene, what was lying to the people here to her? Probably nothing, not if it meant she had control over Rapunzel again. The blonde bit her lip, still uncertain and conflicted. Eugene and Merlin would never allow anything to happen to her, not if they could help it. But that was part of what worried her, that they might get hurt, or worse, in their disagreements with Gothel in trying to keep Rapunzel safe. She couldn't let that happen. She wouldn't let them get involved and hurt because of her.

She needed to talk to them. Perhaps they had some ideas that might help, maybe they could reach some kind of compromise. If Gothel did not harm her friends, Rapunzel would let her use her hair. Maybe? She didn't know. She just knew Gothel had not seemed the happiest when she had left Rapunzel's room at how much Rapunzel knew, that Eugene even had recalled further than Gothel had. Even if she didn't recall the stabbing, the idea of it terrified Rapunzel. She had always been able to heal, to fix things. She couldn't let such a thing happen here.

"No, I'm fine. She just wanted to talk, is all." Physically, Gothel had never harmed Rapunzel and likely never would, given how important her hair's powers were to her "Mother". The same couldn't be said for Eugene or any of Rapunzel's other friends at the Garden though.

Eugene's presence helps her calm a little more though, relieved he apparently hadn't run into Gothel yet in-person at least even if they might have talked over the BBS already.

"Just talk. Right."

He holds her so close, almost as if if he let her go, he might lose her. For all he knew, it was possible.

"Did she try to use your hair?"

"About things back home, I told her I knew more than what I last remembered, told her I knew who my real parents were, about her stabbing you. She says she didn't remember attacking you though. But...I don't think she was very happy when I said I wanted to stay in the dorms with you." Gothel never had approved of Eugene though, so that was not really too surprising. Rapunzel was clueless as to why she seemed so against it though. Eugene hadn't been the best of people initially but as she had gotten to know him he was not so bad.

She shook her head. "No. She didn't. She probably wanted to though. She seems a little older...." Rapunzel wasn't sure what to do about that. She didn't want Gothel to die, but she did not want to fall back into the way things had been before either, like none of this had ever happened.

Eugene scoffed. "Well, the only motherly bone in her body must be in paranoia." He pulls back so he can look at her face. "She doesn't know that I cut your hair...does she?"

"Well, obviously you haven't from when I was brought here, but I did tell her what happens. So, yeah, she knows." Rapunzel was still worked up about it, finally having confronted Gothel and talked to her about everything she'd been trying to mostly keep to herself after her talk with Eugene.

Eugene frowned. It wasn't good. If Gothel knew that Eugene could cut Rapunzel's hair, then there would be extra problems in the near future at Garden. "Then we've gotta work around that to keep you safe." He looked up, thoughtful. "We could eliminate the problem of her trying to get to your hair by cutting it, but..." He looked back to down to her, making a grim line of his mouth. "...that's your decision, and yours alone."

"That's...one way around it. I'd want to wait before cutting it though. Maybe Merlin can help somehow. I want to talk to him before I go cutting it at least." Rapunzel paused, biting her lip and brushing some hair behind her ear. She wanted to keep using her hair to help people who were injured at the clinic.

"I could make a deal with her? Set...um, conditions for using my hair? I don't know....If nothing else we could try talk to the headmaster about it now we know she is here?"

Eugene nodded. He had a feeling Rapunzel would want to keep her hair. Now that he thought about it, he wondered if the Rapunzel back home, brunette and in the arms of her mother, had she wanted to keep her hair? He hadn't actually given Rapunzel a choice...

But here. Here he would.

"Talking to the headmaster sounds better. I don't want her coming near your hair much less touching it. Maybe we can try to keep it in a braid more often."

Rapunzel liked being able to help out as much as she did. If she had to, she would get her hair cut, it was an option on the table. It would definitely give her more freedom in some ways. She knew that. And she didn't hate Eugene for doing it back home, knowing the circumstances around it.

"I keep it braided when I go outside for classes, I don't want people to trip on it or have it get caught in anything." She still had some staring at her but it was much less than if she went around with it down with the full 70 feet.

"We can work with that. Definitely." He put his hands on Rapunzel's shoulders. She was brave. Incredibly brave. To continue with such hope that even Eugene couldn't have mustered up if he'd been in her place. "I'll braid your hair every morning before your classes start, and wait for you between study hours."

"You would? I've managed to do it myself but the help would probably be good. But as long as it is tied back and not in everyone's way it should be fine." Rapunzel managed a small smile. Taking care of her hair took forever sometimes. She is not even sure if Eugene knows how to braid hair but the thought and offer is appreciated.

Eugene nodded, smirking. "Hey, I used to braid all the girls' hair in the orphanage when I was a kid. I can even double braid it." It wasn't exactly the manliest thing to say...but with Rapunzel, it's just natural.

"Oh, really? So you must be a natural. It'll be the same, just....longer hair?" Rapunzel laughed a little, hoping her hair wouldn't give him too much trouble if and when he did want to help her with it at least.

"It'll probably take longer than five minutes to braid, but it shouldn't be a problem. Just need a really sturdy brush."

"Yeah. A bit longer....ah, yes! I have a brush." It was one of the necessities for Rapunzel, given her hair length and all. She'd gotten one soon after her arrival at the Garden, not wanting to let her hair get too tangled and in everyone's way all the time.

Eugene nodded, smiling to himself. Everything was working nicely. "Great! Then we'll have little trouble. I don't have classes, so I can just escort you from place to place, and Merlin can handle the rest."

"What do you mean you don't have classes? Are you teaching now?" Rapunzel has no idea he had been avoiding his, given she was busy with her own herself. "I'm sure Merlin would be happy to help. I doubt he will be too thrilled at Mother's arrival either."

Well...crudcakes. And some other expletives. Eugene forgot that Rapunzel wasn't aware of his technical playing of hooky from his classes. If he had picked out any.

"Not really..."

Oh good! Focus on Merlin. "I think he'd prefer sticking her in a dungeon, than having her roam the halls freely."

"Then...what have you been doing? I thought all of us had classes. If we're not learning we're teaching...." Rapunzel frowns. It sounded like he had been avoiding them or something.

"I don't even know if there are dungeons here but I don't think that's....the way to go about this, Eugene." Giving him a pointed look and raised eyebrow at that, though she understands his concerns and less-than-welcoming attitude.

"Uh..." Okay. Quick! Think of something!

He took her hand and got down on bended knee.

"Rapunzel, what does it matter if I attend classes or no? I am here to protect and serve you, my one true princess and ruler of my heart." Oh dear lord. He was slipping back into Flynn Rider mode.

Yeah. Rapunzel was perhaps flattered but she had not forgotten the issue at hand. "Eu-gene. Of course you need to attend classes. What if you get in trouble here for not taking any? Or even teaching?" Not that having him as a bodyguard wouldn't somewhat calm her but surely he should be learning as well, about this world and all it had to offer.

"Rapunzel, I learned all I need to know a long time ago. Read a book? I can do that. Make a get-away rope? I can do that, too. Fashion a dagger from wood and some spare metal shards? I'm your guy. But this kind of education..." He felt like a fish out of water.

"Well, yes. But this place is different, we can learn new things! I could help you sort out your schedule if you need it?" Because she wanted to help, and she was sure Eugene would get in trouble if it was discovered he was neither teaching or taking classes.
