Summary: It's a wedding!

Grell, who was pacing back and forth in her wedding dress, awaited her fate during the final moments of her freedom. It was just a few feet away in a room just off to the side from the ballroom. She was nervous, because the big day finally came. All she had to do was wait for an escort to go down the aisle.

This wedding was severely impromptu. Not all the details had been finalized. Right now, she could care less about food and guests.

[That's because when he was first appointed Commander he was more preoccupied with saving the world. So things like paperwork might have got pushed to the wayside just a bit.]

[Rinoa doesn't even bother to knock, she just waltz's right in.]

Should have known I'd find you here. [She smiles, amused by how some things at least seem to stay the same.] Come on, there's a wedding and you really should be there. We need to hurry, because I can't be late.

[Since she's a bridesmaid it'll look pretty bad if she's late to the wedding after all. Also how does he appreciate Rinoa's new look thanks to Julia's dress?]

Not interested.

[He doesn't even look up. He's too busy scowling at the pile of papers stacked on his desk, willing them to write themselves.]

(What the...some of these are over five years old.)

[Sigh.]

Come on, Squall! It's not like your paperwork has a time limit.

[Since he's not paying attention to her from a distance she'll just have to go to him.]

Come with me, please? I know you don't know them so probably don't really care. In fact I bet you're probably thinking that you'd be intruding or something, right? Don't worry about it, because they knew some of the other... yous. Not to mention the bride's a good friend and the groom's like a brother to me. Please?

[With a huff, Squall finally looks up.]

[Wow. Just...wow. His eyes travel up the length of her dress, taking in the smooth expanse of leg, and lingering for a few moments around her, er, upper torso, before finally meeting her eyes. Wait, what was he saying? His brain seems to have shut down, otherwise he might notice that the dress looks familiar.

His cheeks turn a light shade of pink. What she's wearing isn't as revealing as her cream colored dress, but this one more...mature. After a few more moments, he's finally able to put words together again.]

You look good.

[Real smooth, Squall.]

[So he does notice things like that. Rinoa had been beginning to wonder about that due to a few things. By the time he actually says anything her cheeks have managed to turn a rather rosy shade of pink.]

Thanks, it was my mother's.

[She smooths down the fabric of her skirts absently.]

Your paperwork hobby can wait. Come to the wedding with me, have some fun! Maybe do a little dancing, because I'm pretty sure you owe me at least one dance.

[Rinoa's smiling as she reaches out to tug on his arm, fairly confident that this Squall wouldn't jerk away at her touch.]

Now's a good time to try and persuade my friends that you aren't always sour faced and serious, just mostly sour faced and serious.

[See how happy she looks, can he say no to that hopeful face and live with himself?]

[Oh, so that's where he saw it before. He's able to understand how Laguna felt, though that's a thought he'll take with him to his grave. The poor guy's finally able to tear his eyes away from her long enough to look down at his desk and sigh.]

Okay.

[He pushes his chair back and stands up, stretching until there's a satisfying pop from between his shoulder blades.]

I don't have anything to wear. [Even he knows that just showing up in his street clothes is unacceptable.]

[She's ready to argue with him some more, but then to her surprise he actually agrees. So for a second there she actually just stands there looking surprised before she breaks out into another smile.]

You will? That's great!

[After he's satisfied with his stretching, Rinoa reaches out and grabs his hand already intent on towing him along.]

Not a problem. You'll just go in uniform. That's all.

[So unless he stops her, Rinoa's going to cheerfully drag Squall to his room.]

[The next thing Squall knows, he's being dragged down the hall to the elevator.]

Hey, wai--

[Realizing there's no point in protesting, he sighs and allows her to lead the way to his room. Once they arrive, however, he removes himself from her (surprisingly strong) grip on his arm.]

Wait here.

[With that, he goes into his room and shuts the door in her face. It isn't until he's changing into his uniform that he realizes...]

(Did I really just agree to go to a wedding?)

[Well she is a SeeD now and well trained in gunblades and other bladed weapons. Combine that with the endurance training she's done and it leads to quite a bit of strength compared to how she'd been two years ago.]

I'll be here, just hurry.

[So Rinoa's just going to stand near a wall and be elated. He actually agreed to go!]

[It only takes him a few minutes to put on his uniform, and soon he rejoins Rinoa.]

Whose wedding is it? [He doubts he knows who it is, but it feels odd to just show up and not even know who's getting married.

[She's just going to take a quick second to admire the sight that is Squall in uniform, hang on. Okay done. No where was she.]

Grell and Marco's. I'm not sure if you've met either of them yet. Grell has super long red hair and she's... really loud. Marco's hair is blonde and really weird. [She tries to imitate it with gestures on top of her head.]

They're both really nice, and they're good friends. We took the SeeD exam together.

[Oh, Squall remembers Marco. He scowls moreso than usual.] Forget it. [He turns to go back into his room.]

(I knew I shouldn't have agreed.)

Hey! Where do you think you're going?

[She reaches out, grabbing his arm and digging her heels in. No he doesn't! She's not moving or letting go until he explains himself.]

What's this all about Squall?

[What the hell, when did she get to be so strong? He huffs, turning around to look at her.]

I've met Marco. I don't like him. (He doesn't like me, either.)

[Endurance and condition. Does wonders while not bulking her up at the same time.]

Whatever he said, he only said it because he worries about me. They all do. I told you he was like family.

Come on, you can't hold that against him. Please?

[Don't make her pull out the puppy dog eyes, Squall. Because she so will if it comes down to it.]

[Squall pinches the bridge of his nose and exhales heavily.]

I'm sure I wouldn't be welcome.

I doubt they'll even notice. They're busy getting married after all.

[She looks up at him, dark eyes both pleading and hopeful.]

So your being there's really more for me than anything else, is that so bad?
