Summary: A backlog of the two roommates meeting.

Upon her arrival to the Garden, one of the first things on Noel's agenda was, naturally, to check into her assigned dorm room. Room B107. She presented herself before the door, standing there awkwardly for a pitiful few minutes before finally mustering up the courage to give it a knock - though not after taking a deep, concentrated breath.

The main cause of reluctance being, of course, her roomate, whom she would be meeting for the first time. She could only hope that the person she would be greeted by would be someone at the very least tolerable, or she may need to look into inconspicuously changing rooms. Noel was a hard worker, and she couldn't allow a bad influence to distract her accademetically from such close proximity.

With any luck it wouldn't come to that. She waited.

Rinoa had been laying on her stomach, feet kicking absently in the air as she was reading some book or another that she'd found in the library on an earlier trip.

Hearing the knock on the door, she marked her page and then sat up. "I'm coming!" Opening the door, the dark haired cadet smiled and waved cheerfully. "Hi! There something I can do for you? Oh! Are you my roommate? I don't think I've actually seen her yet. If you are you know you really don't have to knock since it's your room too and all."

"A-Ah, umm..." Noel blinked inattentively, silently taking in all the elements as she eyed her greeter from top to bottom - snapping her into focus. She shook her head, mustering up a weak, nearly forced smile towards her roommate. "Yes, thank you... I'm Noel, your... roommate..."

"Nice to meet you Noel, I'm Rinoa." She moved back away from the door with a playful little flourish. "Welcome to our room then, I guess. It's nice to meet you."

She stared as Rinoa moved aside, reluctantly stepping in after her with not near as much playfulness. "Pleased to meet you, too... I-I hope I didn't intrude on anything..."

"Of course you're not intruding. It's your room too after all. Not to mention I was just reading, so it's not like I really needed privacy or anything." She headed back farther into the common room then

"I took the room on the right. That's okay, right?"

"Thank you..." Noel followed, still feeling a bit intrusive despite being assured by Rinoa of the contrary. "A-Ah... sure... it was your room first, after all... first dibs..."

"Good. I think the light hits the right window later you see. Now if only I could figure out how to block out the noise from the morning call I'll be set." She smiled, clearly joking at least partially. "I'm really glad you're here now, it was lonely having the room to myself."

"Lonely...? But it sounds like you valued your independence here... if you were trying to block out noise..." She frowned a little, perceiving mixed messages, though there was clearly no legitimate cause for such concern with Rinoa being so open to her. "I'll try my best to be quiet for you, then..."

"Independence? No, I just like my sleep that's all. I hate having to wake up so early. It's kind of hopeless though I think. I doubt there's a way to block out the morning call." Rinoa was good at mixed messages, and at being entirely too open sometimes. "Oh, no it's fine really. I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually."

"A-Ah... well you know what they say... if there's a will, th-there's a way..." Noel chuckled at her sorry attempt at humor, swinging her arm feebly for failed emphasis. "I'm sure stuffing your head between two pillows would... do the trick..."

"I've already tried that one. It didn't work!" Rinoa sounded rather mournful, but really she was still joking even as her lower lip pouted out a little. "They made it specifically so we can't drown it out I think."

"I suppose it's for the best..." Noel sympathized with her in facial expression, though in truth she tried her hardest not to slack off. That's not to say she was always successful in that effort - far from it. "I-Is there anything I could do for you, Rinoa...? As your roommate?"

"Maybe." Noal would quickly come to find out just how not a morning person Rinoa was, but that could wait until at least tomorrow to be revealed. "I don't think so. Just having someone else around is really nice."

"A-Are you sure...? Alright... just remember, if you ever need anything - anything at all... don't hesitate to let me know. I want to strive to be a good roommate." She offered a genuine smile, nodding complacently.

"Of course I will. Don't worry about a thing." Noel was entirely too sweet, it's a good thing Rinoa wasn't the sort to take advantage of that typically.

"No problem, then." Despite a few small, lingering concerns, Noel's bigger worries had been all by quenched by this meeting. She was definitely satisfied with her roommate; at least based on their first encounter alone. "By the way... what's your sponsor? If you don't mind me asking..."

"Everything's just great!" Rinoa agreed with a smile. Don't worry Noelle, Rinoa meant well... for the most part. "My sponsor? I'm in Carbuncle. Which is kind of an awkward name to say, but I guess it'll have to do." If only it were cuter though.

"Awkward? What do you mean...?" Noel didn't find it very awkward, but after saying the word over a few times in her head, realized Rinoa's point. It was a pretty funny word to pronounce. "I'm a Sapphire..."

"I think you see what I mean, huh? I'm used to it since there's a summon named Carbuncle too, but saying I'm from the Carbuncle sponsorship just sounds funny. Not to mention it's just not very cute sounding." She smiled despite this, because clearly it really meant a huge deal to her after all. "Sapphire, huh? Ambitious, Confident, Dedicated, and loyal. Not bad qualities to have in a roommate."

"Ah... I'm not sure if I'm really all my sponsor makes me out to be..." Loyal, definitely. Dedicated, maybe. But ambitious, confident? Not exactly.

"Well I'm sure there's something there they liked. They accepted you as a candidate after all, so I wouldn't worry about it either way." Rinoa hadn't really thought about just what the cadet qualifiers had meant really, but it had sprung to mind when Noel had asked about her sponsor for some reason.

"So how are you liking things so far?"

"Garden life is... sufficient. The people certainly have been welcoming to everyone, at least the SeeD officials have been." The gossipers at the Welcoming Ball sprung to mind. "Being a SeeD Cadet reminds me of my days as a student at the academy... back home..."

"So you went to an Academy back home that reminds you of Garden a little? I bet that's nice, at least nicer than someone completely unused to how things are here anyway." Rinoa rocked on her heels slightly, smiling all the while. "If you have any questions about how things are or the like just let me know okay? I might be out of my time, but things don't seem that different from how they used to be."

"Out of your time...? W-What do you mean? Are you claiming to be a native of the Garden?" That was something Noel was entirely unaware of. If it was the case, she might have landed herself a better roommate than initially thought.

"A native of Garden? I wouldn't say that exactly. I did stay here for a while when we were trying to free Balamb. This is my world though. I guess that's how it's called since there's so many people from different places here now. You could say that I grew up in Deling City." She'd almost taken it for granted that Noel would know she wasn't a transplant as far as worlds went, the silly thing. So she now went about explaining this fact in rather awkward terms.

"A-Ah... I... see..." She closed her eyes, taking in the new information. "So that... 'Time Compression'... isn't only taking people from different worlds, but different time periods as well...?

"As far as we can tell it is." Rinoa answered, fiddling with the rings on her necklace absently. "We're not really sure as to the how or why yet. It's all very strange, even to us."

"I see..." She contemplated on it a bit, her eyes remaining closed. "I've tried not to dwell on it too much... the whole idea of alternate worlds is so... bizarre to me..."

"It's really weird. One day you know that things are kind of strange, but nothing too bad, and the next you find yourself finding out about a whole bunch of random worlds that you'd never known had existed before then. Then Bam! Suddenly a whole bunch of people from these strange other places start showing up." She gave a little spin, clasping her hands in front of her with a small smile. "At the same time it's pretty exciting don't you think?"

"I can imagine what it must be like for people already native to this world... to have to go through all of this..." she mused to herself. "E-Exciting...?"

"Oh. It's not so hard really. It's got to be tougher for people pulled from their own worlds as at least things are familiar for us." Rinoa reasoned that sounded at least somewhat sensible. Honestly she really didn't know anymore. Sometimes you needed to at least pretend to have a clue what's going on, she'd managed to learn that along the way.

"Of course! All these new things happening and all sorts of new people to meet. How is that not exciting?"

"I suppose in that sense it... might be exciting..." Noel conceded, although her tone of voice didn't match her words on the point. "I'm sure it's been hard on everyone who's had to go through this..."

Not a problem, I've moved and not had internet and a whole buncha stuff.

"I figure we might as well stay positive right? There's no reason to be all depressed and in the dumps about what happened. Might as well just make the best of it, don't you think?"
