Location: Garden's pool, fairly early one morning.
Rating: PG (nothing more saucy than people in swimsuits)

Summary: Bubbles. Heart pounding. It's a shark---no, just Billy out for a swim.

When swimming, Billy prefers to keep his head below the water. It's not to show off his ability to hold his breath for a lap or two---that's a good side benefit, but it developed after his preference for staying underwater. He stays below because it's an easy way to drown out the world. With his head submerged, he can't hear any disapproval of offworlders. There's no commentary on his scarred body. And, perhaps most importantly, he can be aware of any lingering threats if his eyes are open.

So Billy spends as much time underwater during his laps as possible, prescription goggles firmly attached. He's a stream of bubbles and a peach and blue shape sliding the surface, only surfacing for air for a few brief seconds. This swimming is entirely serious business, you see. No time for chat. Just time to...run. Or swim, in this case.

His concentration is quite suddenly interrupted by the bean bags that some clown has decided to throw in. He scowls, surfacing for just long enough to toss one to the deck. You'd almost think some people have fun when they go swimming!

"And who is Snake?" She brushes the pads of her forefinger against the top of Emily's scaly head.

"'I am Snake' ... says Oscar." Snake slipped a bit down into the water, so it covered up to his nose, clearly shy.

Dolphin turns her head and sees the boy and gives a friendly smile and wave, then makes an amused face, and chuckles, when he slips and then sinks down into the water. She's tall enough that she can stand in the shallow end, so she walks through the water over to Snake.

"It's very nice to meet you. Both of you." She extends a hand. "I'm Dolphin, the Dean of Academic's secretary."

Snake raises his hand just high enough to offer it over the water. He then comes up just high enough to speak again as another snake slithers up his arm, looking to Dolphin. "'What about me,' Oscar wants to know."

Dolphin chuckles, taking his hand and giving it a welcome shake. "What a lovely gentleman you are, Oscar. Of course it is very nice to meet you as well."

"'But I'm not a man, I'm a snake,' says Oscar." Snake had a blank expression as he said this, but his tone wasn't rude. He was mostly stating fact, even if his expression might look like he thought she was rather silly.

Dolphin smiles cheekily. "It's only an expression, Oscar." She reaches out to rub the top of the snake's head.

Oscar seems to enjoy the attention while Snake just gets comfortable in the water, letting Oscar enjoy the attention.

Dolphin gives Oscar adoring attention, then turns to Snake. "And what of your lovely friend, here?"

Snake goes red, watching her warily. "That's Snake," says Emily.

"Is he your friend?" She can tell that asking the boy directly will not get her a direct answer.

"'Yes, we are very close,' says Emily." The snake swam over to Snake, draping over his neck.

Dolphin swims over as well, putting out a hand. "Hello, Snake. It is a pleasure to meet you."

Snake takes her hand and shakes it, clearly a bit nervous.] ... "I-it's nice to meet you too," says Oscar.

She pats the top of Snake's hand. "I love your friends, here." She holds out a hand for Emily to climb upon. "Very polite. And Emily's coloring is very beautiful! Oh, Oscar your coloring is quite handsome. I know boys prefer to be called handsome, isn't that right?"

Snake blushes a bit more, "Ah... 'Thank you, you are beautiful too,' says Emily. 'You are very kind,' says Oscar."
