Backdated to the weekend Beach Party and Birthday Log! \o/
[Marco runs around setting everything up. There's platters of food laid out -- more than enough and some extra as a habit from dealing with Ace and 1600 pirates, a boombox with tons of music, beach volleyball set up, a campfire, and according to Selphie and Marco, fireworks for later. GO NUTS. There will be some threads set up, but you can make your own or do anything! Just remember if the thread gets wild, mark it as NSFW.]

[Not quite sure if she would die for him, but she'll burn that bridge when she crosses it.]
I think you've lost that meaning a while ago. Perhaps at the bottom of the sea, or the bottom of a glass.
[She stands from her spot, looking down at him as he probably deserves.]
You can do as you please. I will do what is proper. Threaten me as you may, but know THIS--
[And she pulls out her DEATHSCYTHE from no where in particular, its engine humming with life.]
YOU will not like what you encounter if you cross me. I will make sure of that.
[With that, she walks away, weapon still in her grip. Where the bloody hell is Marco...]

[He's not hard to find. Luckily?]

Go talk to him, eh?
I should have done this before, told you more things, but I can't always keep track. He needs you in his life right now, and believe it or not? You need him too. Once you start talking and trying to get along? You will. Trust me.
He's really messed up right now. Remember when I asked about how you died? [Gently nudges the back of her neck and head with the top of his own.] He's shook up. You don't have to bring it up, but he doesn't understand how to live after such things. Show him the way, okay?
I have faith in you both.

Grell could feel her skin crawl, despite how gentle Marco is being. She looks back at him, unsure about this new approach. Is she a secret weapon now?]

You're an awful little pigeon, do you know that?
no subject
I have no idea what you mean. [OH HE KNOWS ALL RIGHT.]

She goes back over, somehow, someway, while reminding herself that this is for Marco.]

And maybe...the transition shouldn't be made. They had a pattern here. Grell. Espio. Toby. Even Namur had fit into it in his easy going way, as annoyed as he was by it. He'd get used to it. He'd shrug it off. Roll with the tide.
Thatch just seemed to be drowning in it...But that didn't mean he should take others with him into that darkness. He stood and strode across the sand to catch up with her, close enough in speaking distance but not in range]
I'm not here to cross you. I'm not here to ruin your life or your happiness. I shouldn't be here at all.
Still, if I'm scared you, Grell, I'm sorry. You have nothing to fear from me.

None of us should be! I should be hunting down lifeless automatons at sea while the breeze caresses me all over! [She turns fully to him, a hand on her hip.] And I fear so VERY little, and you're not in that small niche!
Only I can ensure my own happiness! Only I have the ability to allow anyone to ruin what I've earned! So, no, you'll no be doing EITHER!
[No one is going to make her life FUCKING HELL ever again!]

And in the end--well--a small stupid toy--decorations--none of it really mattered all that much. So he just smiles and shrugs lightly, folding his hands in his pockets]
I stand corrected. See you around, eh?
no subject
...that's all you have to say? [That seemed way too easy.]

She watches him walk away. Well, guess it's back to Marco then.]

You let him get away? I'm surprised at you, Kitten.

What did you two say?

I told him that it is not I that has misunderstood the meaning of nakama, but him. He lost that meaning long ago. [She put away her weapon and crossed her arms.] I also informed him that NO ONE will ever take away, nor ruin, what I have earned.
GO TO BED YOU
[Ruffles her hair softly, his own admiration shining through, but he gives a slightly rueful grin, almost a grimace.]
He was murdered by a nakama. He was the first one Teach betrayed us with. So it wouldn't surprise me that he's scared to death of such things. Even Namur, eh? After Teach did that, none of us knew what to do. We broke a little, we all took it really hard. Pops blamed himself for raising Teach, we all blamed ourselves for not knowing, for holding back, for trusting.
It's easy to say, "No regrets," and sometimes, to even mean it. But to truly never look backwards and wonder, "What if?" What if Espio hurts Toby? Don't I have no choice but to trust him anyway?
[He gets up and holds Grell tightly in his arms, burying his face in her hair and takes a deep breath. Just holds her close and enjoys holding her there.] I'd been with Teach from the start. He helped me fight for Fishman Island's freedom from slavers. He helped me avenge fallen comrades. But he was never as much my friend as Thatch. And looking back? Can I say it's because Thatch was more trustworthy? Can I say it's because I knew something was off about Teach and so I was leery of him? No. They were both nakama. Can I say it is my fault, that perhaps if I had befriended Teach more, he wouldn't have turned?
[He shakes his head, and blue eyes darken, wisdom that only comes with experience.] No. Teach held back on purpose. And we only have him to blame.
Ace took off to avenge Thatch though, and that we can blame ourselves for. He blamed himself, and we didn't stop him, couldn't save him. Namur said Thatch knows, he somehow heard about it, but I hope that idiot doesn't blame himself for it. It won't solve it.
Do me a favor, Kitten. Don't hold back. You needn't fight him with your chainsaw, you won't save him like that. He fights up here. [Taps her temple lightly.] He's brilliant, and my tactician. [There's something nice about calling Thatch his own tactician now. Always before Marco would said "our." His father's. The Garden's. But no, Thatch was his tactician, and one of his best friends in all of space, time, and multiple universes. Best friend. ] But we all have our weaknesses, eh? Nakama cover for each other's weaknesses. We cover each others' backs and form the best tightly unit so that even cracks like Teach turning around and stabbing one of us can't weaken us forever, okay?
[And with that he breaks the incredible seriousness of it all by grabbing Grell's ass and groping it. <3] I love you, Kitten.
Both of you, eh? Very much.
[HUG.]
I DO WHAT I WANT
She knew exactly how that feels. It's what made her so reluctant to trust.]
My apologies-- [ASDFGHJKL MARCO WHAT EVEN?! Grell's surprised at the sudden ass grab and hits his arm playfully. No, she doesn't mind, but how inappropriate to the atmosphere.] I love you, too, my firebird. [She wraps her arms around his waist, kissing his neck sofly.] I'll do my best to not maim him, but do not think I will use soft gloves. As family, I'll protect that until the end, no matter how much of a jerk he may be. [She nips at his ear idly, before simply nibbling on it.] I've also informed him that simply tolerating each other is not enough.
WELL OKAY THEN
Aye, simple tolerance isn't enough. But if he's being a jerk, that's a good sign. It means he actually does think of you as family close enough to trust with that. It's when he straight out ignores or avoids that I get really worried.
/o/
Thanks for the heads up, my love. You could have told me that earlier. [Continues to nibble.]
