There's platters of food laid out -- more than enough and some extra as a habit from dealing with Ace and 1600 pirates, a boombox with tons of music, beach volleyball set up, a campfire, and according to Selphie and Marco, fireworks for later. [Mikuru, wearing the interesting combination of a kaftan, sandals, sunhat, and a reinforced fingerless glove on her right hand, is setting up a cupcake tower for dessert. (Don't worry, she's mostly working with her left hand.) She steps back to examine her handiwork: The cupcakes are arranged so that the icing colors form a pattern.

[She's pretty proud of herself! Despite this icon, she has a satisfied smile on her face.]

[There's a girl standing over there and nobody else seems to be talking to her at the moment, so naturally Yosuke homes in on her, a cup in one hand and headphones hanging awkwardly around his conspicuous translator. Hope springs eternal.]

Hey! Hard at work?

[Mikuru turns to him, giving him a curious onceover. Someone new? Ah, yes, there's the translator; she remembers wearing that.]

Hi! I'm just about finished, actually... [She takes the last few cupcakes from the container she's holding and places them carefully on the top tier of the tower.] What do you think?

I think you're lookin' good! [He winks. Ha, he's so subtle!

But the arrangement must have taken a while, too, and having knocked over a number of similar displays in his time he has to envy the attention to detail. Just what he'd expect from a cute-looking girl... and from a certain friend of his who is the exact opposite of a cute-looking girl, but never mind that. He gestures at the tower with his cup.] Did you do all of this yourself?

[The you and the wink makes her blush, and blink like a possum in headlights, but she can deal with the question about the cupcake tower more easily.] Um, I had some help from other members of the GFC in making the cupcakes, but I did the tower myself.

[He blinks at the mention of the GFC, but hell, he knows he wouldn't remember what the letters stood for even if he had heard of it somewhere. His momentary confusion doesn't stop him looking impressed.] Well, good job! I'd say it almost looks professional. [That's a compliment! Of course it is.

He takes a swig of the cola he's holding before remembering himself.] Oh, yeah, sorry - I'm Yosuke Hanamura. I guess I'd be the new kid around here.

[Mikuru smiles shyly and nods her thanks, before his name gets her interest.] I'm Mikuru Asahina, I teach the full week remedial English class - are you Japanese?

[Other people from her home country, even if different worlds, are exciting!]

Another one, huh? Man, what're the chances? [He grins.] Yeah... I doubt you would've heard much about it, except maybe last year, but -

[Then his ears catch up with the rest of him, and his next sip of cola goes up his nose.]

Wait, you're a teacher? A-Are you serious? [He glances down at her, giving her a more thorough (but decidedly hasty) once-over.] You don't look that old...

[Damn. He wonders how bad he should be feeling about this.]

[Well, if she hadn't felt self-conscious teaching someone mere months younger than her, she certainly feels self-conscious about her age now.] I'm nineteen... You can teach just a trimester after you graduate here, and you can graduate at fifteen.

[He waves his free hand hurriedly.] Wait, no, I didn't mean it like that! I, uh, think it's pretty great that you're so responsible already. Heh.

[In fact, Yosuke looks distinctly relieved. Sure, maybe it'd be a good idea to steer clear anyway, but a year or two isn't too horrible to live down, right?

He sets his cup down by the tower and folds his arms.]

Though it is a little different... Well, I guess when you compare it to everything else, getting used to one weird school system can't be that bad, huh?

[And it's the comment about responsibility that makes Mikuru blush, but in a flattered way rather than embarrassed. It's the first time someone's heard she's an instructor and assumed she's responsible. It's nice!]

Y-yeah... The curriculum might be... unusual, but I liked having some structure while getting used to everything else. And some of the classes really help get your head around the world.

[Yosuke gives her another cheerful smile. Damn, she's cute. Maybe if he pushed himself a bit... But no, no, a teacher would be a bad idea even compared to all of his other bad ideas. He'll just have to keep reminding himself of that.]

Some of them are worthwhile, huh? Not all of them? [He waves a hand airily; he clearly isn't being serious.] Sounds just like school at home, if you ask me... Yeah, like I was saying, I'm from Inaba. It's not a bad little town. What about you?

[Oh, what a joker! She decides to humor him with a bit of a smile at that.]

Um, I'm from Kobe. I don't think I've been to Inaba... [Not that she's traveled geographically that much.]

The city too? That's cool. [Is that a touch of uncertainty he's picking up along with the little smile? Man, she is cute... oh no, he might be getting conflicted feelings.] Yeah, don't worry if you haven't heard of the region. I hadn't either. There's nothing there, after all.

Anyway, uh, nice to meet ya! [He nods towards the cupcakes.] Hope you're remembering to take some time off as well. I mean, the whole point of this is for people to come along and ruin it...

[A giggle.] Yes, I'll be joining in on the party! Once I've put these [she waves the container she had the cupcakes in] away. It's nice to meet you too, Hanamura-san.

[With a small bow, she retreats, presumably to put things away and beat up fish monsters.]
