[Marco runs around setting everything up. There's platters of food laid out -- more than enough and some extra as a habit from dealing with Ace and 1600 pirates, a boombox with tons of music, beach volleyball set up, a campfire, and according to Selphie and Marco, fireworks for later. [He laughs too.] I do enjoy it; I just don't feel like swimming right now.

[A gesture at the food table.] Have you tried the sushi? [He doesn't quite trust non-Japanese made sushi...]

Oooh. I'll have to drag you swimming some other time then.

[ She giggles, a wide smile on her face. ]

And yeah, I've tried it. It's alright. Not the best, but it could be a lot worse.

[Half-seriously:] I'm trusting your opinion on this.

[He takes a piece of sushi from the platter, has a bite, and chews.

[His face says it's okay, if underwhelming.]

[ Aww. You shouldn't say things like that, she'd be really upset if you didn't like it.

But good, okay, you're not upset about the food at all. Yay. ]

Well, glad to see that my opinion isn't wrong.

[ Speaking of, she's going to go ahead and grab another plate and get a few pieces of sushi herself. ]

[munch munch unimpressed munch] I kind of wish I knew how to make it myself. One of my cooks back home made excellent sushi and I've yet to find something that matches it here.

[ Chika nodded. ]

Yeah. Knowing how to make sushi would be pretty good. I'm kinda surprised that anyone even makes sushi here, considering that we're not in our world at all.

... Then again, I guess I shouldn't be that surprised. It's not like there aren't plenty of places that are on a coast.

[ Like, say, Balamb. Or Fisherman's Horizon. ]

[A smile and nod of agreement.] Not to mention the influence of off-worlders. There have been Japanese people from various worlds since before I arrived here.

It's oddly reassuring to find that there are some things different worlds have in common.

Yeah. I guess that's a good point too.

[ Though it's really kinda weird that people here would actually take things like that from other worlds. Considering the general attitude towards offworlders in general throughout the world. ]

And it really is. It makes everything seem... I don't know, more connected I guess. And I guess easier for all of us to talk to one another, even with all of the differences between us.

[Hey, Touma's assuming the sushi at this party was off-worlder made...]

Good way of putting it. Though I think we might have an easier time of it than some worlds, given we already had experience with people from other worlds before we came here... [A fond smile over at Gaomon, who's off trying volleyball.]

[ Chika nods in response. It was true that 'oh you're in another dimension' was, well, not a foreign concept to them at all.

And it definitely made having a talking pony for a roommate back when she first got here easier to deal with. ]

Yeah. That definitely made things easier of us. But has anyone here said that it was hard to adjust at first? A lot of the people that I talk to seemed to get used to the idea pretty quickly.

[Touma pauses to consider it, then remembers:] A friend of mine who disappeared last year said his girlfriend had trouble at first.

[A shrug, and a look of mild distaste because he didn't think much of this girlfriend anyway. He's talking about Sharpay, who can blame him?]

[ Chika shrugged. ]

Well, I guess it makes sense that some people wouldn't take it well at first. I mean, not everyone can be super adjusted to things like this like we are.

And people have different coping mechanisms... I'm being uncharitable, I suppose.

[He waves a hand, dismissing the subject, and starts on another piece of sushi.]

[ Yeah. That's as good a plan as any. Chika moves to grab a couple more pieces, before popping one of them into her mouth. Once she swallows it, she's going to not say anything for a few moments, trying to think about something else to talk about.

Except she's having a bit of a hard time thinking of anything, so there's just going to be silence for a little while longer. ]

[Over her shoulder, Touma catches sight of the shark cake. Which reminds him:] I saw on the BBS recently that this turned into a birthday party as well as the original GFC morale booster. Do you know the celebrant?

[ Chika shook her head. ]

Nope. I really have no idea, actually. Though I guess I probably talked to him once or twice over the BBS, considering everything.

Oh, good, I'm not the only one. Considering it was a general party at first, I wasn't sure if I should bring a present, let alone what to get him.

[scatterflower]

Yeah. I didn't bring a present either.

[ Usually she would feel upset about that, but if there was a party going on that was a general party and a birthday party, she wasn't going to feel bad. Especially if they invited a ton of people who didn't even know the guy who was having the birthday. ]

I mean, even if I did know him, it was pretty short notice about the whole birthday thing.

I've been known to manage on shorter notice. [Well done, Touma, you tried a funny.] Still, birthday or not, it's a fun party so far.

Probably a good idea, yeah.

[ Chika nodded, blushing just the tiniest bit when she remembered her tenth birthday. Of course, back home you happened to be rich as heck, so that didn't really count. ]

Yeah, I've really been having a good time. And it's just what we really needed.
