Dinner for Two

Summary: Champloo has invited Pinkie Pie to dinner.

Perhaps the most interesting change to the massive basement kitchen was the temperature. Champloo had actually let the giant cauldron cool -- it wasn't going to waste, since he actually intended to prepare enough gazpacho to feed the entire school later -- and so no longer was kitchen hellishly hot. Beyond that, little else was different save for the desks being pushed aside and replaced with a table set with nice but certainly not fancy flatware, and the dishes midway through preparation in the particularly large over and several countertip stove burners Champloo reserved for his personal use.

Pinkie decided to not peer over at what Champloo was doing or else she would fall and ruin dinner. But it was worth being patient when she saw the main course. Her face lit up in surprise and her hands went to both cheeks.

"HOLY MOLY! It's like Hearth's Warming Eve is here!" She looked to him, smiling widely. "You REALLY went all out, Chammy!" And all she brought was pie!

"To achieve a perfect blend of tastes, one must only use the finest ingredients, of course." That metaphor might be a bit obscure -- he was referring to the meal itself as an ingredient, along with Pinkie Pie herself. She totally gets a pass on figuring that one out.

"YEAH THAT'S RIGHT!!" Pinkie won't be looking deeper into that metaphor. She waited for Champloo to sit as well. Eagerly, mind you.

No worries on the wait! Champloo quickly topped off their drinks again, then sat and lifted his glass to her.

"To delicious ingredients!"

Pinkie lifted her glass as well.

"And to fanTABULOUS company!"

Same thing, Pinkie! But he clinked his glass to hers, then drank. And like a good host, waited for her to tuck in before he began to eat in turn.

She didn't know that, okay?!

Pinkie dug into her dinner, making the most delicious sounds. Or making sounds because of how delicious the food was. Either way, she was enjoying it!

This is all that Champloo asks! Her enjoyment brought him enjoyment, and her silence otherwise spoke volumes of that enjoyment. He was content to eat his own meal, and enjoy the food through her eyes, as it were.

As Pinkie savored the meal, she knew well that there was still dessert to enjoy. She didn't eat fast, but she didn't eat slowly either. She did manage to eat all of her meal and left room for...

"DESSERT!" Sorry, Chammy. This time, Pinkie was going to serve them both.

So used to being the one serving was he that he nearly rose anyway! But with discipline and patience, he reined himself in, and slid his emptied plate aside to await her offering.

Pinkie hustled around the kitchen for plates, forks, and syrup. Once she was done doing a bit of open-pie surgery, she returned with their desserts.

"Here we go! Wild strawberry and apple rhubarb pie with maple syrup!!" She placed it down in front of him and then in front of her own seat. She took up her fork and cut off a small piece of her own slice and offered it to Champloo.

"Say AAAhhhhh!"

"A fascinating combination! I await it with great excitement!"

He obligingly shut his eyes and opened his mouth.

Without just shoving it into his mouth, Pinkie was careful to simply slide the piece of pie in. No stabbings this time!

"How is it?!"

Ha! Champloo would have proved surprisingly resilient! ...but was glad he didn't have to.

He leaned back, chewed thoughtfully, then let the flavor roll around his mouth for a moment. Finally, having assessed it with the thoroughness and reverence the offering demanded, he swallowed.

"It exceeds my expectations! And I had very high expectations!"

Pinkie gave a gasp and leaned forward more, which is pretty close since she wasn't sitting just yet.

"HOW HIGH?! TELL MEEEE! HIGH ENOUGH TO TOUCH THE SKY?!"

"We are indoors, but the ceiling certainly is in danger!" he countered with a grin.

Of course she looked up with wide blue eyes in amazement.

"Woooooowwwww....." That was so deep. So deep. Pinkie returned to her seat, still looking up. She didn't tip or anything.

"It would be unkind of me to actually smash the ceiling, though," he added as he took another bite of pie.

"Not to mention it would cut into our salary!" And she needed that money for candy and fun things like party supplies! Pinkie finally ate her own slice, humming at the great job she did. She even took a moment to pat herself on the back!

Deservedly, in Champloo's mind. "This idea of dinner was, if I may season my own cooking, magnificent! Would you care to make a regular occasion of it?"

Pinkie blinked and tapped the fork against her lip, thinking for a long while.

"SURE!" She burst into a grin. "We could even take turns making the dinner and dessert!"

Why did she have to think about it so long...? He actually found himself worrying just a second before she finally spoke.

But, passing that off, he smiled again. "An excellent idea! Of course, my kitchen is always open to you, but I do not mind switching venues either."

That was why. To make him worry!

"...is there usually more light in here?" Because this kitchen was pretty darn dark to her mind!

He pointed to the giant cauldron. "Normally, I have a great fire burning to keep the contents heated. However, I feared that would be too hot for casual dining. Heat does not bother me, but I preferred you to be comfortable."

"Ha Ha! Yeah! I forgot that it could get pretty hot down here!" She remembered the one time she visited and her curls got curlier!
