Dinner for Two

Summary: Champloo has invited Pinkie Pie to dinner.

Perhaps the most interesting change to the massive basement kitchen was the temperature. Champloo had actually let the giant cauldron cool -- it wasn't going to waste, since he actually intended to prepare enough gazpacho to feed the entire school later -- and so no longer was kitchen hellishly hot. Beyond that, little else was different save for the desks being pushed aside and replaced with a table set with nice but certainly not fancy flatware, and the dishes midway through preparation in the particularly large over and several countertip stove burners Champloo reserved for his personal use.

She looked up at him, her face upside down, before smiling brightly to him. "MY HERO!!" Falling would have been painful, although she tended to be used to it. "Thanks, Chammy!"She kicked her legs to right herself. Not sure if that would work, but the effort is there!

"OOOOOOOOH! All this looks great!"

Ordinarily, Champloo preferred not to lie to himself. In this case, he was perfectly willing to make an exception and pretend that his heart hadn't skipped a beat when she smiled at him, upside-down, like that. Acknowledging it would accomplish nothing except raising a lot of questions and problems that would surely be awkward, difficult, and uncomfortable.

Aiding her in righting herself, he smiled as he rounded the table to his own seat. "As I said before, this is a new idea I thought I would try! Not the usual combination, but I think not a bad one."

Pinkie will give him all the smiles he wanted! Just don't have a heart attack! Don't worry, one day, she'll come to a realization that Chammy was the best thing since parties. In a non-friendship way.

"A NEW IDEA?!" What an honor this was! Pinkie took up her knife and fork and examined the dish from differing angles, trying to figure out the best way of sampling the food. "Lets try it out!" She cut into it and made sure to include all the toppings and berries in her bite. She munched with a look of concentration.

"HHHMMMMMMM..."

Champloo, personally, doubted that.. and despite being fairly genre-savvy, had no idea that his failure to express any sort of sentiment besides in the most vague ways could be contributing to the problem.

"That IS why I invited you down, you recall -- to try out the new recipes I am using!" For her, but.

...that might be why, Chammy.

Pinkie made a single sound similar to 'oooooooh, that's right' as she chewed before swallowing. Looking forward to his company, she forgot that part. Plus, lots of food to eat.

"It's really good! Do you think you can make a berry spread for it?" Because that would be awesome! She took more bites, humming happily at the flavors. "Hmm, maybe it wouldn't make the mayo stand out, though..." But it was so good!

"The mayo is primarily for creaminess," he said between bites. "A spread would require less to begin with, but I do not think it would be terribly missed."

"True...veeeerrrrrry true." Pinkie will have to keep this in mind for her own recipes. "Will you share the recipe with me, Chammy?" Don't make her give you a sad face!

"Of course I shall!" he replied immediately. "Just the potato toppings, or more?"

"Is there more?!" Pinkie lit up at the thought of more. More food?! Dessert, perhaps?!

"Of course, Pinkie! You did not think that salads and potatoes made for a complete meal!" Then again, she might have...

Pinkie just shrugged. "They do to me!" She had terrible eating habits. Pie for dinner, this one.

"Suspecting that IS one of the reasons I invited you here," he said with a mental shrug. Lucky for her she's so consistently high-energy... "But there still remains the main course, and then, naturally, dessert!"

Pinkie looked honestly surprised that ther was more. She looked around, trying to see if she could spot it.

"I hope I can make room for more! Definitely gotta make sure to make room for dessert!"

"Somehow, I am not terribly worried," Champloo said with a grin. "When you are ready...?"

"One moment, please!" And instead of savoring each bite, Pinkie cut the potato in half and shoved one part into her mouth. It took a while for her to chew and swallow it without suffocating, but she did it.

There was still the other half, which she cut into smaller pieces and placed her eating utensils down. "Alright! Ready to ROCK!" She'll munch on the rest along with the main course.

Unconventional but acceptable, much like Pinkie herself. Who was he to complain?

Rising once more, he stepped over to the largest and greatest of ovens, and opened the door dramatically. The warm, delicious scents of cumin and cheese wafted out as he drew out the baking dish from inside, and then dramatically tossed the foil aside. Drawing over two plates and a serving spatula, he quickly dished up two helpings and brought it over.

This one took some effort, and he sat down the dish before Pinkie with pride. Portobello-stuffed poblano chiles.

Pinkie decided to not peer over at what Champloo was doing or else she would fall and ruin dinner. But it was worth being patient when she saw the main course. Her face lit up in surprise and her hands went to both cheeks.

"HOLY MOLY! It's like Hearth's Warming Eve is here!" She looked to him, smiling widely. "You REALLY went all out, Chammy!" And all she brought was pie!

"To achieve a perfect blend of tastes, one must only use the finest ingredients, of course." That metaphor might be a bit obscure -- he was referring to the meal itself as an ingredient, along with Pinkie Pie herself. She totally gets a pass on figuring that one out.

"YEAH THAT'S RIGHT!!" Pinkie won't be looking deeper into that metaphor. She waited for Champloo to sit as well. Eagerly, mind you.

No worries on the wait! Champloo quickly topped off their drinks again, then sat and lifted his glass to her.

"To delicious ingredients!"

Pinkie lifted her glass as well.

"And to fanTABULOUS company!"

Same thing, Pinkie! But he clinked his glass to hers, then drank. And like a good host, waited for her to tuck in before he began to eat in turn.

She didn't know that, okay?!

Pinkie dug into her dinner, making the most delicious sounds. Or making sounds because of how delicious the food was. Either way, she was enjoying it!

This is all that Champloo asks! Her enjoyment brought him enjoyment, and her silence otherwise spoke volumes of that enjoyment. He was content to eat his own meal, and enjoy the food through her eyes, as it were.

As Pinkie savored the meal, she knew well that there was still dessert to enjoy. She didn't eat fast, but she didn't eat slowly either. She did manage to eat all of her meal and left room for...

"DESSERT!" Sorry, Chammy. This time, Pinkie was going to serve them both.
